Developing children's readership in reading workshops and reading lessons

Abstract:

Tématem diplomové práce je rozvíjení čtenářství pomocí čtenářských dílen a čtenářských lekcí. Teoretická část se zabývá vymezením čtenářství a souvisejících pojmů, problematikou čtenářské gramotnosti a povahou čtenářského kontinua, dále popisuje faktory ovlivňující rozvoj dětského čtenářství a metody programu RWCT a sním spojené dílny a lekce čtení. Praktická část se věnuje charakteristice čtenářství žáků vybrané 5. třídy ZŠ a analýze zrealizované čtenářské lekce a čtenářské dílny. Poslední kapitola hodnotí u jednotlivých žáků rozvoj čtenářské dovednosti "vyhledávání a propojování přímo i nepřímo vyjádřených informací podle účelu čtení" v oblasti porozumění textu. Ve výzkumném šetření jsem využila metodu přímého pozorování žáků a analýzu činností během realizované lekce a dílny čtení.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis addresses the development of readership by means of reading workshops and reading lessons. The theoretical part deals with the definition of readership and related terms, the conception of reading literacy and the framework of the reading continuum. Furthermore, it describes factors which influence children's readership development. Finally, it explores the methods of the RWCT program (Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking), including reading workshops and reading lessons. The practical part focuses on the readership characteristics in 5th-grade Czech elementary school pupils, including an analysis of a particular reading lesson and a reading workshop. The last chapter assesses the development of a given reading skill within reading comprehension in individual pupils (searching for and linking information expressed (in)directly, depending on the purpose of the text). As for research methods, direct observation and the analysis of the activities during the lesson and the workshop are employed.
