Teaching basics of algorithmic thinking in primary schools

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na výuku algoritmického myšlení na prvním stupni základních škol. Součástí práce je analýza současného stavu rozvoje algoritmického myšlení na základních školách v České republice i v zahraničí. Výsledky analýzy byly použity při tvorbě sbírky úloh pro výuku algoritmického myšlení, která je určena učitelům na 1. stupni základních škol a studentům odpovídajících pedagogických oborů. Součástí práce je názorná ukázka úloh pro rozvoj algoritmického myšlení, které jsou rozděleny podle použití na úlohy pro pracovní listy, praktické úlohy, úlohy pro kartičkové prostředí a úlohy pro robotické hračky. Konkrétní úlohy jsou dále rozděleny podle druhu do celkem osmi skupin. Každá skupina úloh je v práci stručně definována, jsou popsány možnosti regulace obtížnosti jednotlivých cvičení a jsou popsány způsoby, kterými úlohy rozvíjejí algoritmické myšlení. Přínosem práce je vytvoření kompletního souboru celkem 91 úloh společně s jejich popisem, kategorizace těchto úloh podle typu, popis možností využití, rozšíření a úprav náročnosti konkrétních úloh a klasifikace jednotlivých typů úloh podle procvičovaných algoritmických struktur. Dále představení vhodných zdrojů úloh na internetu i v knižní podobě.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the education of algorithmic thinking in elementary schools. The thesis consists of an analysis of the current state of the algorithmic thinking development in primary schools in both Czech Republic and foreign countries. The results of the analysis were used for creating a set of exercises for the education of the algorithmic thinking that is designated for elementary school teachers and students of relevant study programmes. The thesis also includes visual examples of the exercises for the algorithmic thinking development that are sorted based on their use into worksheet exercises, practical exercises, small cards exercises, and robot toys exercises. The exercises are further sorted based on their type into eight categories. Each category is briefly defined in the thesis. The possibilities of difficulty adjustments in individual exercises are described. as well as the techniques used in the exercises to develop algorithmic thinking. The main contribution of this work is creating a complete set of 91 exercises, along with their description, categorization of these exercises by their type, description of the possibilites of use, extension and adjustment of the difficulty in individual exercises, and classification of individual types of exercises based on the algorithmic structures that are trained. Furthermore, the recommended sources for exercises on the internet and in textbooks are introduced.
