Evolution of the austerity policy debate after the Great Recession

Abstract:

Úsporná opatření patří mezi témata, jimž je v poslední době věnována významná pozornost, ať už z hlediska cíle jejich zavádění, jímž je obnova ekonomického růstu, nebo z důvodu negativních dopadů, které je nezřídka doprovázejí. V práci jsou analyzována dvě klíčová období, která jsou neodmyslitelně spojena se zaváděním úsporných opatření a následným vývojem debaty, přičemž zahrnuje názory odborníků a jednotlivé názorové proudy, které mají odlišný pohled na problematiku úsporných opatření v mnoha oblastech. Na základě analýzy zdrojů a názorů jednotlivých autorů bylo možné identifikovat rozdíly mezi jednotlivými obdobími a názorovými proudy. Dále jsou v práci uvedeny klíčové oblasti, jimž nebyla věnována dostatečná pozornost nebo v odborné literatuře dosud zcela absentují.

Abstract:

Austerity measures are one of the topics that have recently received considerable attention, both in terms of the objective of their implementation, which is to boost economic growth, and because of the negative impacts that often accompany them. The paper analyses two key periods inherent in the introduction of austerity and the subsequent evolution of the debate, incorporating the views of experts and individual currents of opinion that have different perspectives on the issue of austerity in many areas. By analysing the sources and the views of individual authors, it was possible to identify differences between the different periods and currents of opinion. The paper also identifies key areas that have not received sufficient attention or are still completely absent from the literature.
