The impact of the gender pension gap on the at-risk-of-poverty rate of women receiving a retirement pension

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na vliv gender pension gap na ohrožení chudobou žen pobírajících starobní důchod. Ohrožení chudobou se stále objevuje ve většině států EU i přes možné regulace, kterými se státy snaží ohrožení eliminovat. Studie z řady zemí ukazují, že právě důchodkyně pobírající starobní důchod patří mezi nejohroženější skupiny, a snaží se poukázat na tuto problematiku jako na problém, který by měly brát členské státy Evropské Unie vážněji. Cílem práce je oveřit, zda jsou regulace, jenž se snaží ohrožení chudobou u žen pobírajících starobní důchod eliminovat, účinné. Je zkoumán vztah mezi gender pension gap a ohrožením chudobou u žen pobírajících starobní důchod. K těmto účelům jsou využita otevřená data Eurostatu, jimiž jsou míra rizika chudoby (mezní bod: 60 % mediánu ekvivalentního příjmu po sociálních transferech) a gender pension gap z databází EU-SILC a ECHP, v období let 2010-2018. Pomocí analýzy časových řad byl zjištěn trend proměnných, tedy gender pension gapu a ohrožení u důchodkyň pobírajících starobní důchod a průměrné tempo růstu. Výsledky analýzy časových řad jsou vstupními daty shlukové analýzy, na základě které je provedena klasifikace států EU do skupin podle toho, jak se státy dle vývoje dvou proměnných ukazatelů chovají. Závěr výzkumu přispěje do odborné diskuze o ohrožení chudobou žen pobírajících starobní důchod.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is focused on the imapct of gender pension gap on risk-of-poverty rate of women receiving old age pension. At-risk-of-poverty rate appears in most of EU states despite possible regulations by which the state tries to eliminate the risk. Studies from many countries shows that women who are receiving old age pension belong to the most endangered group and researchers try to point out to this issue which should be taken more seriously by the European Union.The aim of this thesis is to verify whether the regulations that try to prevent the threat of at-risk-of-poverty for women receiving old age pensions functional. To reach this aim of thesis, the relationship between the gender pension gap and the risk of poverty in women receiving old-age pensions is examined. For this purpose open Eurostat data are used just as the at-risk-of-poverty rate (cut-off point: 60 % of the median equivalent income after social transfers) and the gender pension gap from the EU-SILC and ECHP databases, for the period 2010-2018. The analysis of time series determines the trend of variables, so the gender pension gap and the at-risk-of-poverty for women receiving old age pensions and the average growth rate. The results of the time series analysis are also the input data of the cluster analysis, based on the cluster analysis, the EU states are classified into groups according to how do they behave based on the evolution of chosen variables. The conclusion of the research will contribute to the expert discussion on the at-risk-of-poverty of women receiving old-age pensions.
