The adaptation of pupils to the transition to secondary school: case study

Abstract:

Předložená práce se věnuje tématu školní tranzice ze základní školy na gymnázium a následné adaptaci studentů na nové prostředí a životní etapu za využití adaptačního kurzu pro facilitaci tohoto procesu. Cílem předkládané práce je popsat, jak proběhla u vybraných studentů adaptace na střední školu, a to se zaměřením na to, jak adaptaci prožívali, co pro ně bylo z hlediska adaptace důležité a jak se v jejich adaptaci projevil vliv adaptačního kurzu. Využit byl design vícepřípadové studie, přičemž byla analyzována data z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se třemi studenty, kteří se zúčastnili adaptačního kurzu. Dále byly využity terénní zápisky z kurzu, sociogram, vyjádření školního psychologa před kurzem a rozhovory s třídním učitelem a školním psychologem po kurzu. Z práce vyplývá potřeba nezužovat problematiku adaptace studentů pouze na plnění výkonových parametrů, jako je prospěch studentů, ale naopak věnovat se výrazně sociální stránce adaptace. Za důležité faktory pro svou úspěšnou adaptaci považují studenti rovněž zorientování se v prostředí nové školy a v odlišných požadavcích a přístupech vyučujících.

Abstract:

The presented thesis deals with the topic of school transition from the lower secondary school to grammar school and the following students´ adaptation on the new environment while using an adaptation course as the meaning for the facilitation of the process. The aim is to describe the process of an adaptation on the grammar school of three chosen students. The focus will be on their experience with their own process of adaptation, what was important for their adaptation and how has the adaptation course influenced the process of adaptation. The multiple-case study design was used for the research. The sources of data were as follows: the semi-structured interviews with the three students, field notes from the adaptation course, sociogram, and the interviews with the psychologist and the teacher of the students. The results show the need to solve the problem of transition not only in the field of study results but also in the social part of adaptation. Students consider also the orientation in the new school environment, requirements and approaches of teachers as very important.
