Cognitive rehabilitation in occupational therapy of seniors with dementia

Abstract:

ÚVOD-Teoretická část definuje pojmy stáří, demence, diagnostika a dělení demencí, rozlišení nejčastějších typů demencí, rozdíl mezi vaskulární demencí a Alzheimerovou nemocí. Následně jsou popsány možnosti v léčbě (vaskulárních) demencí. CÍLE PRÁCE-Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je přispění k problematice (vaskulárních) demencí pomocí ergoterapeutických postupů a metod. Vedlejším cílem je přispět pomocí vlastní ergoterapeutické intervence ke zlepšení vnímání klientky a pozitivně ovlivnit kvalitu jejího života. METODY-V hlavní části je podrobně rozepsána kazuistika klientky s vaskulární demencí ve stádiu mírné až střední demence. Hlavní metodou bylo hodnocení klientky pomocí standardizovaných kognitivních testů - MoCA, ACER. ZÁVĚR-cíl práce byl dle autora splněn i s vedlejším cílem - pomocí vlastní ergoterapeutické intervence přivést klientku ke zlepšení vnímání a pozitivně ovlivnit kvalitu jejího života, klientka si díky ergoterapeutickým intervencím a kompenzační pomůcce - dřevěnému kalendáři, lépe uvědomuje orientační přehled, také se více zapojuje do ADL a snaží se být více soběstačná.

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION-The theoretical part defines the concepts of old age, dementia, diagnosis and classification of dementias, the distinction of the most common types of dementia, the difference between vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Subsequently, the possibilities in the treatment of (vascular) dementias are described. GOALS OF THE WORK-The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to contribute to the issue of (vascular) dementia using occupational therapy procedures and methods. The secondary goal is to contribute to the improvement of the client's perception and positively influence the quality of her life through her own occupational therapy intervention. METHODS-In the practical part, the case report of a client with vascular dementia in the stage of mild to moderate dementia is described in detail. The main method was the examination of the client using standardized cognitive tests - MoCA, ACER. CONCLUSION-The aim of this bachelor thesis is to contribute to the issue of (vascular) dementia using occupational therapy procedures and methods. According to the author, this goal was met with a secondary goal - with the help of her own occupational therapy intervention to bring the client to improve perception and positively affect her quality of life, thanks to occupational therapy interventions and compensatory aid - wooden calendar, better aware of the orientation, she also becomes more involved in ADL and tries to be more self-sufficient.
