Impact of restrictions associated with the SARS CoV-2 pandemic on the physical condition of professional soldiers

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá dopadem nařízených vládních restrikcí spojených s pandemií onemocnění covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) na tělesnou zdatnost vojáků z povolání. Data a informace získané díky prováděným výročním tělesným přezkoušením se skládají z vytrvalostní a silové části. Každá část obsahuje striktně definovaný soubor cviků, jejichž výsledky byly porovnány mezi rokem 2019 a 2021, kdy mezi těmito lety nebyl přístup ke sportu a tréninku ve zcela standardním režimu. Výzkumný vzorek zahrnuje dohromady 55 vojáků z povolání ze 71. mechanizovaného praporu, 73. tankového praporu a 7. mechanizované brigády. Z tohoto celku je porovnávána také skupina 10 vojáků, kteří chorobu skutečně prodělali a při onemocnění trpěli značnými respiračními problémy. Dosažené výsledky v silové a vytrvalostní části byly porovnány neparametrickým párovým Wilcoxonovým testem. Při analyzování celého výzkumného vzorku výsledky naznačují, že není rozdíl v silových a vytrvalostních schopnostech před a po pandemii covidu-19. Nicméně při analýze, kde jsme porovnávali výsledky vytrvalostního testu u probandů, kteří prodělali nebo neprodělali covid-19, jsme došli k závěru, že probandi, kteří prodělali covid - 19 s těžkým průběhem měli při druhém testování po pandemii covid-19 v roce 2021 signifikantně horší výsledky.

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the impact of government-mandated restrictions associated with the pandemic of the covid-19 disease (SARS-CoV-2) on the physical performance of professional soldiers. The data and information obtained through the annual physical testing conducted consist of an endurance and strength component. Each part contains a strictly defined set of exercises, the results of which were compared between 2019 and 2021 when access to sport and training was not in a completely standard mode between these years. The research sample includes a total of 55 professional soldiers from the 71st Mechanised Battalion, 73rd Tank Battalion, and 7th Mechanised Brigade. A group of 10 soldiers who had the disease and suffered significant respiratory problems during the illness is also compared to this population. The results obtained in the strength and endurance part were compared by a non-parametric paired Wilcoxon test. When analyzing the entire study sample, the results suggest that there is no difference in strength and endurance abilities before and after the covid-19 pandemic. However, in the analysis where we compared the endurance test results of probands who did or did not have covid-19, we concluded that probands who had severe covid-19 had significantly worse results when tested a second time after the covid-19 pandemic in 2021.
