Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá opravováním chyb při mluvení studentů v hodinách angličtiny. Práce představuje teoretické poznatky o chybě v učení jazyka – převážně cizích jazyků – a následně i opravování chyb, kterých se žáci při mluvení dopouští. Tyto poznatky jsou srovnány s výsledky internetového výzkumu mezi učiteli a studenty anglického jazyka v Brně, který probíhal v únoru a březnu roku 2013. Práce se zaměřuje na chyby a opravování chyb z hlediska komunikativního přístupu k výuce jazyka; představuje však i názory protichůdných přístupů k opravování chyb (například Stephena Krashena) a hodnotí i je. Po úvodním představení jednotlivých pohledů nejdůležitějších metodologických teorií druhé poloviny 20. století a dneška (behaviorismu, srovnávací analýzy, analýzy chyb, Krashenovy teorie Natural Approach a komunikativního učení jazyka) na opravování chyb se práce zaměřuje na pozici chyby a jejího opravování v teorii akvizice cizího jazyka v porovnání s pozicí v teorii akvizice mateřského jazyka a konverzacích rodilých mluvčích. Práce poukazuje na rozdíly a shody mezi výše zmíněnými a zdůrazňuje přínos takového srovnání pro teorii akvizice cizího jazyka. Práce představuje hlavní příčiny a typy chyb a rozlišuje mezi termínem error a mistake. Práce také projednává důležitost a účinnost korekce chyb a představuje všechna komplexní rozhodnutí, která ke korekci vedou – zda chybu opravit, jak ji opravit, kdy chybu opravit, kdo by ji měl opravit a jakým způsobem. Snaží se tak zodpovědět otázku, zda existuje univerzální ideální způsob na opravování chyb, a pokud ano, tak jaký. Dále práce představuje a hodnotí jednotlivé způsoby signalizování chybných výpovědí. V závěrečné části autorka představuje výsledky výzkumu mezi učiteli a studenty anglického jazyka, analyzuje je a srovnává s teoretickými poznatky. Navrhuje také podněty pro další výzkum v této oblasti, který je třeba pro hlubší pochopení vnímání chyb a opravování mezi učiteli a studenty.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with error correction in oral practice in English language classes. It presents and evaluates theoretical findings on error in language learning – particularly in second language acquisition – and the subsequent correction of errors made by learners in speaking. It compares these observations with the results of an online research among teachers and students of English in Brno carried out in February and March 2013.The thesis mainly focuses on error and correction as perceived from the perspective of the communicative approach to language teaching; however, it introduces contrary approaches to correction (such as Stephen Krashen’s) and evaluates them, too. After introducing different perspectives on error and correction in the most prominent methodological approaches since the mid 20th century until today (behaviourism, contrastive analysis, error analysis, Krashen’s natural approach, and communicative language teaching), the thesis discusses the position of error and correction in second language acquisition compared to the position in first language acquisition and native speech. It points out similarities and differences between them and stresses the importance of the comparison for second language theory. The thesis distinguishes error from mistake and presents the main sources and types of error. It also discusses the importance and effectiveness of correction and presents all the complex decisions leading to a successful correction – that is, deciding on whether to correct, which errors to correct, when to correct, how to correct, and who should do the correction. In doing so, it tries to answer the question whether there is a universal ideal way of correcting learners’ errors and if so, what it is. Besides, it presents and evaluates individual ways of indicating errors that teachers use to signal that an error has been made. In the final part, the author presents results from the research among teachers and students of English, analyses them and compares them with the theoretical background. Suggestions for further research into classroom practice are also given.
