Analysis of strength abilities of secondary school students

Abstract:

Silové schopnosti jsou nedílnou součástí a důležitou složkou lidského pohybu. Bohužel je jejich rozvoj často v rámci školních i mimoškolních aktivit opomíjen, u mladších ročníků i zakazován. Nízká úroveň silových schopností se však pojí s vysokým množstvím potenciálních zdravotních komplikací. Cílem této práce bylo změřit úroveň silových schopností žáků tří středních škol s různým zaměřením (humanitní, sportovní, technické) a porovnat je mezi sebou. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 81 žáků čtvrtého ročníku středních škol, chlapců i dívek. Výsledky byly naměřeny pomocí tří cviků z testové baterie UNIFITTEST 6-60, které se soustředí právě na silové schopnosti, tj. skok z místa snožmo, leh-sedy za minutu a shyby na hrazdě pro chlapce, vis ve shybu pro dívky. Pro analýzu výsledků jsem zvolil výpočet velikosti efektu pomocí Hedgesova g. Analýza ukázala, že si nejlépe vedli žáci Sportovního gymnázia v Ostravě, kdy v porovnání s oběma ostatními školami byla sledován velký efekt. Porovnání ostatních dvou škol ukázalo malou velikost efektu. Značné rozdíly v silových schopnostech mezi žáky signalizují rozdíly v přístupu k rozvíjení silových schopností ve školách i napříč mimoškolními aktivitami. Výsledky této práce by mohly posloužit jako vodítko pro změnu v přístupu k silovým schopnostem ve školách i mimo ně.

Abstract:

Strength abilities are integral and important part of human movement. Unfortunately, development of strength is often omitted or even prohibited mostly from younger children. Low level of strength is linked with a large number of health complications. The aim of this thesis was to measure the level of the strength abilities of the secondary school students from three different schools with the various aim (humanist, sport and industrial) and compare them with the others. The data were measured with three exercises from UNIFITTEST 6- 60, which focus mainly in the strength abilities, i.e. long jump, sit-ups/minute and pull-ups for boys, hanging endurance for girls. For the comparison of the results the size effect via Hedges g has been chosen. After the comparison of the Sport gymnasium in Ostrava with the other two schools, we could observe huge size effect. Comparing the other two remaining schools has shown small size effect. The significance in the differences between the schools has shown, there is big variability in the approach to the developing of strength abilities at school or in other physical activities. The results could lead to the change in the approach to the development of the strength abilities at schools and outside of schools.
