The Learning Needs of Managers for Conflict Resolution at the Workplace: A Case Study

Abstract:

Téma diplomové práce je případová studie Vzdělávací potřeby manažerů pro zvládání konfliktů na pracovišti. Cílem studie je poznat a popsat zkušenosti manažerů a také jejich podřízených s řešením konfliktních situací na pracovišti a definovat jejich vzdělávací potřeby v této oblasti. V úvodu teoretické části práce jsem se snažila pomocí komparace dostupné literatury popsat sociální situace a s nimi vzájemně propojené vztahy, jejich postoje a role, které vytváří pracovní prostředí. Druhá část teoretické práce je věnována struktuře konfliktní situace a to společně s jejími aktéry. V třetí části jsem se už přímo zabývala vztahy na pracovišti, ale také negativními dopady konfliktu, které mají vliv na výkon pracovníků. Cílem teoretické části bylo analyzovat konflikty na základě poznatků čerpaných z odborné literatury a na základě prováděného výzkumu v terénu se zaměřit na konfliktní situace na úrovni mezilidských vztahů. Empirická část práce se zaměřuje na vysvětlení a popis zvolené výzkumné strategie a na definování hlavní výzkumné otázky a další vlastní výzkumné šetření, včetně prostudování interního dokumentu. Závěr práce tvoří diskuse nad analýzou dat, ale především jsou interpretovány výsledky výzkumného šetření.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis presents a case study on the learning needs of managers for conflict resolution at the workplace. Its aim is to identify and describe managers´ and employers´ experience with resolving conflict situations at their workplace and to define their learning needs. The theoretical part of the thesis first uses available resources to outline social situations and relevant relationships, attitudes and roles that jointly create the working environment. Furthermore, the structure of conflict situations and their participants is described. Finally, the theoretical part also deals with relationships at the workplace and negative impact of conflicts on employees´ performance. The aim of the theoretical part is to analyse conflicts on the basis of findings from the literature review and use the data from the field research to focus on conflict situations on the level of interpersonal relationships. The empirical part of the thesis focuses on identification and description of the selected research strategy as well as definition of the main research question and further research including the elaboration of an internal document. The thesis concludes with discussion and data analysis and interprets the results of the practical research.
