Competitiveness as a Basis of Economic Governance in the European Union

Abstract:

Doktorská disertační práce je zaměřena na teoretickou a empirickou analýzu konceptu konkurenceschopnosti, jenž je aplikován na příklad ekonomické governance v Evropské unii. Cílem je nalézt a vysvětlit vztah mezi zásadami konceptu konkurenceschopnosti a ekonomickou governancí EU. Otázkou především je, zda Evropská unie jako příklad regionální integrace má k dispozici dostatečně silné a flexibilní nástroje pro sebe samou i v rámci členských zemí při vyrovnání se s měnícími se podmínkami globalizované světové ekonomiky, demografických a environmentálních výzev a zda systém ekonomické governance EU bere v úvahu (příp. má inkorporovánu) aplikaci zásad konkurenceschopnosti, která může tento systém více zefektivnit.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on theoretical and empirical analysis of concepts of competitiveness that are further applied to the case of the European Union and its system of economic governance. Aim of the thesis is to explain the relationship between competitiveness` concept and economic governance of the EU. The matter is whether the European Union, which has belonged to the most successful examples of regional integration, has strong and flexible tool for itself and for its member states to cope with changing conditions of the globalized world economy, demographic and environmental challenges and whether economic governance of the EU takes principles of competitiveness development into consideration and so application of these principles would make the EU economic governance more effective.
