An Image of insomnia in the context of Internet addiction

Abstract:

Diplomová práce prozkoumává vztah mezi insomnií a závislostí na internetu, včetně vztahu mezi různými formami insomnie a závislostí na internetu. V kvantitativní výzkumné studii byly použity české překlady metod Index závažnosti insomnie (Insomnia severity index insomnií, ISI, Morin, 1993), Pittsburský dotazník kvality spánku (Pittsburgh sleep quality index, PSQI, Buysse et al., 1989) a Test závislosti na internetu (Internet addiction test, IAT, Young, 1998). Jednorázového dotazníkového šetření se zúčastnilo celkem 167 respondentů z obecné populace (N = 167; 18–78 let; věkový průměr = 42,78 let), přičemž 52,1 % (N = 87) výzkumného souboru tvořily ženy a 47,9 % (N = 80) byli muži. Předpoklad existence vztahu mezi insomnií a závislostí na internetu byl potvrzen v podobě pozitivní korelace u výsledků dotazníku ISI (r = 0,341, p < 0,01) i u výsledků dotazníku PSQI (r = 0,292, p < 0,01). Dále závislost na internetu statisticky významně predikovala insomnii dle ISI (β = 0,329; t = 4,74; p < 0,01) a vysvětlovala 10,8 % změn variance ve skóre insomnie (R2 = 0,108; F = 20,016; p < 0,01) a statisticky významně predikovala insomnii PSQI (β = 0,262; t = 3,49; p < 0,01) a vysvětlovala 6,9 % změn variance ve skóre insomnie (R2 = 0,069; F = 12,146; p < 0,01). U akutní insomnie byla zjištěna pozitivní korelace (r = 0,27, p < 0,05), u chronické insomnie byla zjištěna pozitivní korelace (r = 0,26, p < 0,01), u insomnie při nástupu spánku byla zjištěna pozitivní korelace (r = 0,24, p < 0,01) a u insomnie s udržením spánku byla zjištěna pozitivní korelace (r = 0,15, p > 0,05). Zmapování obrazu vztahu insomnie a závislosti na internetu může pomoci k bližšímu pochopení těchto poruch jak každé zvlášť, tak jejich společného vztahu a bližšímu objasnění jejich fungování a následné léčbě.

Abstract:

The master thesis examines the relationship between insomnia and Internet addiction, including the relationship between different forms of insomnia and Internet addiction. There were used czech translations of the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI, Morin, 1993), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI, Buysse et al., 1989) and the Internet Addiction Test (Internet addiction test, IAT, Young, 1998) in the quantitative research study. A total of 167 respondents from the general population (N = 167; 18–78 years; average age = 42,78 years) took part in the one-time questionnaire survey, with 52,1% (N = 87) of the research group being women and 47,9% (N = 80) men. The assumption of the existence of a relationship between insomnia and Internet addiction was confirmed in the form of a positive correlation in the results of the ISI questionnaire (r = 0,341, p < 0,01) and in the results of the PSQI questionnaire (r = 0,292, p < 0,01). Furthermore, Internet addiction statistically significantly predicted insomnia according to the ISI (β = 0,329; t = 4,74; p < 0,01) and explained 10.8% of the variance in the insomnia score (R2 = 0,108; F = 20,016; p < 0,01) and statistically significantly predicted PSQI insomnia (β = 0,262; t = 3,49; p < 0,01) and explained 6.9% of the variance in insomnia scores (R2 = 0,069; F = 12,146; p < 0,01). A positive correlation was found for acute insomnia (r = 0,27, p < 0,05), a positive correlation was found for chronic insomnia (r = 0,26, p < 0,01), a positive correlation was found for sleep onset insomnia correlation (r = 0,24, p < 0,01) and a positive correlation was found for insomnia with sleep retention (r = 0,15, p > 0,05). Mapping the picture of the relationship between insomnia and Internet addiction can help to better understand these disorders both separately and their common relationship, and to further clarify their functioning and subsequent treatment.
