Sensory integration in preschool age children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract:

ÚVOD Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem senzorické integrace a využitím této terapie u dětí v předškolním věku s poruchou autistického spektra. CÍL PRÁCE Seznámit a rozšířit povědomí o metodice senzorické integrace a jejím uplatnění u dětí v předškolním věku s poruchami autistického spektra. METODIKA První část práce je tvořena teoretickými poznatky o senzorické integraci, poruchách autistického spektra a ergoterapii. Část druhá se zabývá kazuistikou vybraného dětského klienta s poruchou autistického spektra. K získání informací potřebných ke vstupnímu a výstupnímu vyšetření byly využity tyto metody: aspekce během terapie, rozhovor a vyplnění testů. K hodnocení stavu klienta byly vybrány 2 standardizované testy, a to WeeFIM (Functional independence measure for children) a Short sensory profile. Práce následně zahrnuje individuální krátkodobý ergoterapeutický plán, samotnou intervenci, dlouhodobý ergoterapeutický plán a shrnutí výsledků. Terapie byly realizovány formou her ve speciálně vybavené tělocvičně v Jirkově a byly při nich používány prvky senzorické integrace. VÝSLEDKY Ergoterapeutická intervence napomohla ke zlepšení hrubé motoriky, svalové síly, řeči, pozornosti, senzitivity v ústech, rovnováhy, bilaterální koordinace a sebeobsluhy (WeeFIM prokazuje zlepšení o 17 bodů). Zatímco test Short sensory profile poukazuje na zhoršení (o 2 body) v oblasti taktilního vnímání a na nevýrazné zlepšení, které nastalo u svalové síly (o 1 bod). ZÁVĚR Psaním této bakalářské práce jsem získala vědomosti o využití senzorické integrace u dětí s poruchami autistického spektra. Dále mi zpracování tématu pomohlo nabýt zkušenosti v rámci ergoterapie s dětmi.

Abstract:

INDRODUCTION This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of sensory integration and the use of this therapy in preschool children with autism spectrum disorder. THE AIM OF THE THESIS To introduce and expand awareness of the methodology of sensory integration and its application in preschool children with autism spectrum disorders. METHODOLOGY The first part of the work consists of theoretical knowledge about sensory integration, autism spectrum disorders, and occupational therapy. The second part deals with the case study of a selected child client with an autism spectrum disorder. The following methods were used to obtain the information needed for the entrance and exit examination: aspects during therapy, interview, and filling out tests. 2 standardized tests, WeeFIM (Functional independence measure for children), and Short sensory profile, were chosen to assess the client's condition. The work then includes an individual short-term occupational therapy plan, the intervention itself, a long-term occupational therapy plan, and a summary of the results. Therapies were implemented in the form of games in a specially equipped gym in Jirkov and elements of sensory integration were used. RESULTS The occupational therapy intervention helped to improve gross motor skills, muscle strength, speech, attention, oral sensitivity, balance, bilateral coordination and self-care (WeeFIM shows an improvement of 17 points). While the Short sensory profile test points to a deterioration (by 2 points) in the area of tactile perception and an insignificant improvement in muscle strength (by 1 point). CONCLUSION By writing this bachelor thesis, I gained knowledge about the use of sensory integration in children with autism spectrum disorders. Furthermore, processing the topic helped me gain experience in occupational therapy with children.
