The Organizational Provision and the Course of the First May Celebrations in the Liberec Region in 1945-1989

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá oslavami Prvního máje na Liberecku od konce druhé světové války, především v době vlády Komunistické strany Československa. V této době to byl nejmasovější státní svátek, který strana využívala ke své propagaci. Oslavy Prvního máje jsou ukázkou hodnot a cílů československého socialismu, se kterými se díky prožitku z oslav měly ztotožnit masy účastníků. Avšak ne vždy tomu tak bylo a pohled veřejnosti na oslavy se v průběhu let měnil. Práce je rozdělená na tři velké oddíly, rozčleněné dále do pěti kapitol, kdy v prvním je mapována historie a původní význam oslav Svátku práce. Jedná se o kapitolu 1. Druhý oddíl, kapitola 2, se zabývá mechanismy příprav, propagace, průběhu a zhodnocení oslav na několika úrovních státní správy a v různých organizacích. Ukazuje, jak byl liberecký region ve svém konání ovlivňován ústředními výbory Národní fronty a komunistické strany a které konkrétní organizace a podniky v okrese měly oslavy na starosti. Poslední úsek, kapitoly 3 až 5, se zabývá přesným vymezením zkoumaného území a konkrétními příklady průběhu oslav v jeho jednotlivých obcích. V jejím závěru je zhodnocen pohled veřejnosti na oslavy Prvního máje, jak se měnil v průběhu doby. Vyzdviženy jsou roky, které se v rámci oslav dají považovat za zlomové ? 1949, 1968 a 1970.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the May Day celebrations in Liberec region from the end of the Second World War, especially under Communist rule. At that time, it was the mass public holiday which the Communist Party used to its promotion. The celebrations of the 1st May are the example of values and aims of the Czech socialism which the masses of participants, thanks to the enjoyment of the celebrations, should have identified with. Nevertheless, it was not always like this and the public opinion on the celebrations changed over the years. The thesis is divided into three big sections, sub-divided into five chapters. In the first section, the history and the original sense of the celebrations of the May Day are described. It is the chapter 1. The second section, chapter 2, deals with the preparation, promotion, procedure and evaluation mechanisms at several levels of the public administration and in different organisations. It shows how the action of the Liberec region was influenced by the central committees of the National Front and the Communist Party and which concrete organisations and companies were in charge of the celebrations in the region. The last section, chapters 3 to 5, describes the exact demarcation of the studied area and the concrete examples of the procedure of the celebrations in individual municipalities. In conclusion, the public opinion on the May Day celebrations and its changes over the time are evaluated. The years which can be considered as turning points ? 1949, 1968 and 1970 ? are highlighted.
