Discrimination in the recruitment process for leading positions in economic fields in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá přítomnost diskriminace u přijímacího řízení na manažerské pozice v ekonomických oborech v České republice, konkrétně v Praze, za využití terénního experimentu. Analýza byla inspirována předchozími výzkumy natéma statistické diskriminace a jejími teoretickými předpoklady. Přítomnost diskriminace je zkoumána pomocí OLS modelu. Bylo vytvořeno 26 fiktivních osob, reprezentujících různé pohlaví, věk a etnickou skupinu s různou výší dosaženého vzdělání a zkušeností s řídícími pozicemi a ke každému byl vytvořen životopis. Každá osoba odpověděla a odeslala svůj profesní životopis na 20 pracovních inzerátů v období od září do října roku 2022. Analýza potvrzuje přítomnost diskriminace romské i vietnamské menšiny. Romští uchazeči dostali nejméně pozitivních odpovědí, a to i za předpokladu stejných zkušeností a vzdělání. Vietnamští uchazeči dostali v průměru více odpovědí, něž romští uchazeči, nicméně lidé s typicky česky znějícím jménem dostali pozitivních odpovědí nejvíce. Dále byla potvrzena důležitost zkušeností v oboru s manažerskými pozicemi, která má do 17. roku pozitivní vliv na odpovědi zaměstnavatelů, poté má vliv negativní.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the presence of discrimination in the recruitment process for leading positions in economic fields in the Czech Republic, specifically in Prague, using field experiment. The analysis was inspired by previous research on the topic of statistical discrimination and its theoretical assumptions. The presence of discrimination is measured using the OLS model. There was created 26 fictitious people, representing different genders, age, and ethnic groups with different levels of education and years of experiences with leading positions and for each person was created a CV. Each person responded and sent their professional CV to 20 job advertisements in the period between September and October 2022. The analysis confirms the presence of discrimination against Roma and Vietnamese minorities. Roma applicants received the least positive responses, while assuming the same experience and education. On average, Vietnamese applicants received more responses than Roma applicants, but people with a typically Czech-sounding name received the most positive responses. Furthermore, the importance of experience with leading positions was confirmed, which has a positive effect on answers of the employer. 17 years of experiences and more has a negative effect.
