Principles of the rating agencies’ operation system and their role during the crisis

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá principy fungování ratingových agentur, historii třech světových kreditních ratingových agentur, tzv. "Big Three", budoucnosti agentur v podobě ERA apod. První kapitola je zaměřena zaprvé na vymezení pojmů "rating" a "ratingová agentura", americké a české ratingové agentury, kreditní ratingová škála. Pak se rozebírají charakteristiky suverénního a korporátního ratingu, samotný ratingový proces a jsou označeny uživatelé ratingu. Další důležitou částí této práce je vliv ratingových agentur na průběh americké hypoteční krize roku 2007. V této části jsou rozebírány možné příčiny, které k tomuto neefektivnímu působení přivedly. Poslední kapitola je věnována vzniku Evropské ratingové agentury a podněty, díky jejímž se v EU zamyslelo o vytvoření vlastní ratingové agentury. Hlavním podnětem je především degradace hodnocení států Evropy.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the main principles of the rating agencies' operation system, history of the world's biggest rating agencies (so-called "Big three"), their future (European rating agency) etc. First chapter mainly focuses on the definition of rating itself, American and Czech rating agencies, credit rating scale. Then there will be defined some corporate and sovereign rating characteristics, the rating process and subjects that use ratings. Another important part of the following thesis is CRAs' influence on the subprime mortgage crisis in the US in 2007. Here, the reader will be introduced to the main causes which lead to such ineffective functioning of the CRAs. The last chapter is dedicated to the idea of setting up an independent European rating agency and rating downgrade wave of the EU countries in 2012.
