Cognitive, emotional and social correlates of subjective health

Abstract:

Ústředním tématem naší diplomové práce je analýza vztahů mezi subjektivním zdravím a vybranými kognitivními, emocionálními a sociálními koreláty. Konkrétně jsme se zaměřili na vztah mezi subjektivně posuzovaným zdravím a osobní pohodou, dispozičním optimismem/pesimismem, nadějí a pozitivními vztahy. Do výzkumu byla zařazena data získaná od 1 409 osob sebraných v rámci studie Naděje 2014. Pro účely výzkumu byly použity čtyři dotazníky: pro dispoziční optimismus The Life Orientation Test (Scheier, Carver, Bridges, 1994); pro naději The Adult Hope Scale (Snyder a kol., 1991); subtest pozitivních vztahů z SPWB - Scales of Psychological Well – Being (Ryff, 1989); pro osobní pohodu The Trait Well-Being Inventory (Dalbert, 1992). Dále bylo zjišťováno subjektivní zdraví a demografické charakteristiky – pohlaví, věk, vzdělání a rodinný stav. Byla prokázána existence statisticky významného vztahu mezi subjektivně posuzovaným zdravím a všemi proměnnými – nadějí, dispozičním optimismem, osobní pohodou i pozitivními vztahy. Nejvýznamnější determinantou je osobní pohoda, která vysvětluje 8,6 % rozptylu subjektivního zdraví. Společně s optimismem vysvětlují 8,9 % rozptylu subjektivního zdraví. Dále bylo zjištěno, že dispoziční optimismus a naděje jsou významnými determinantami osobní pohody a společně vysvětlují téměř 56 % variance osobní pohody. Naše zjištění jsou převážně ve shodě s českými i zahraničními studiemi.

Abstract:

The central theme of our master´s thesis is to analyze the relationship between subjective health and selected cognitive, emotional and social correlates. Specifically, we focused on the relationship between subjective health and personal well-being, dispositional optimism / pessimism, hope and positive relationships. Our research includes data from 1,409 individuals collected in the study Hope 2014. For the purposes of the research were used four questionnaires: Dispositional optimism - The Life Orientation Test (Scheier, Carver, Bridges, 1994); Hope - The Adult Hope Scale (Snyder et al., 1991); Subtest of positive relationships SPWB - Scales of Psychological Well - Being (Ryff, 1989); Personal well-being - The Trait Well-Being Inventory (Dalbert, 1992). It was also investigated subjective health and demographic characteristics - gender, age, education and marital status. We proved a statistically significant relationship between subjective health and all variables - hope, dispositional optimism, well-being and positive relationships. The most significant determinant is well-being, which explains 8.6% of the variance of subjective health. Together with optimism explain 8.9% of the variance of subjective health. It was also found that dispositional optimism and hope are important determinants of well-being and together explain almost 56% of the variance of well-being. Our findings are mostly in compliance with Czech and foreign studies.
