The Beat generation: American countercultural movement

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Beat generation: Americké kontrakulturní hnutí se věnuje americkému sociálně-kulturnímu fenoménu padesátých a šedesátých let dvacátého století, tzv. beatnické generaci. Práce se zabývá vznikem, formováním hnutí beat generation a osobnostmi jeho tří „zakladatelů“ Jacka Kerouaka, Williama S. Burroughse a Allena Ginsberga. Cílem práce je na základě analýzy vybraných Kerouakových a Burroughsových textů odkrýt potenciální ideologii hnutí a zodpovědět otázku, zda toto uskupení nese znaky kontrakultury.

Abstract:

Master thesis The Beat generation: American countercultural movement is concerned with an American social-cultural phenomenon of the 1950’s and 1960’s so called beat generation. The thesis describes the foundation and formation of the beat generation movement and introduces the three of the „founders“ Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg. The main goal of the thesis is to discover possible ideology of the introduced movement and to answer the question about whether this group shows any signs of the counterculture. All of that is based on the analysis of the texts of Kerouac and Burroughs.
