Taboo and its Functioning in Culture and Society

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na fenomén tabu a jeho funkci v kultuře a společnosti. Definuje pojem tabu a pojmy s ním spojené. Prostřednictvím několika různých teorií poukazuje na odlišné způsoby interpretace tabu a jeho funkcí. Na konkrétních příkladech pak autorka dokumentuje fungování tabu v určitých oblastech lidské kultury a společnosti a poukazuje na vznik, vývoj a funkce jednotlivých tabu v těchto oblastech. V závěru se práce zaměřuje na oblast rodiny a naznačuje, jaké mechanismy vedou k upevňování tabu a zda či případně jak je možné se z moci tabu vymanit.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the taboo phenomenon and its function within human culture and society. It defines the concept of taboo and other terms that are related to this phenomenon. The thesis points out the different ways of interpretation of the taboo phenomenon and its functions through the various theories. The authoress refers to particular taboos and their functions in various areas of culture and society and shows their origin and development. At the end the paper focuses on the family area, reveals methods of the taboo creating and reflects if it is possible to avoid taboos.
