Establishment of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church Against the Background of the Birth of Czechoslovakia

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje především jedné etapě českých dějin počátku 20. století, tedy době, jejíž těsná minulost a záhy i budoucnost znamenala pro Evropu mnoho zvratů a změn. Konkrétně se věnuje dějům a souvislostem, předcházejícím vzniku Církve československé husitské, která je významnou a vlastně jedinou upomínkou na snahu o proměnu církve, mající počátek v období katolického modernismu, v rámci Evropy. Soustředí se nejen na důvod jejího zrodu, ale i možné širší souvislosti, jako např. samotné založení Československa. Práce za pomoci textové analýzy popisuje, jakou roli mohla plnit církev při identifikaci národa, jakého postavení mohla v této situaci dosáhnout nejen u obyvatelstva, ale i v rámci vyšších, politických kruhů. Zabývá se tedy nejen historickými souvislostmi, které byly spouštěcím mechanismem celého koloběhu, vedoucího až k emancipaci státu a části církevních struktur, ale také uvádí na pravou míru vztah mezi těmito dvěma nově vzniklými subjekty.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is particularly concerned with one period of Czech history at the beginning of the 20th century. It is the era, together with its close past and soon it was the coming future as well, that have brought lots of turnovers and changes for Europe. It is devoted to acts and context preceding the formation of Czechoslovak Hussite Church that is a significant and in fact, the only reminder of Church transformation efforts having the origin in catholic modernism era within Europe. It is focused on, not only the reason for its creation, yet also possible wider context, such as foundation of Czechoslovakia itself. Thanks to textual analysis, this work describes the role the Church could have in identification of the nation, what position it could have reached in this situation among population as well as in higher political quarters. It not only deals with historic context that has been a trigger for the whole cycle, leading to the emancipation of the state as well as parts of church structures, but it also shows the real relation between these two new-developed subjects.
