Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá původem zeměpisných názvů anglicky mluvících zemí se zaměřením na Velkou Británii. Názvy míst v jednotlivých zemích, ktéré náleží Velké Británie, byly ovlivněny celou řadou prvků, jako jsou římské, skandinávské, anglické, keltské a církevní. Hlavním cílem práce je prozkoumat, jak různorodé lokality ovlivňují vznik místních názvů ve Velké Británii. Základní metodou práce je rešerše dvou pramenů: A Dictionary of British Place-Names, jehož autorem je A. D. Mills, a Fife Place-name Data, který sestavila Univerzita v Glasgow. Tyto údaje budou dále analyzovány a zaneseny do map za účelem zodpovězení výzkumné otázky.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis focuses on The Origin of Geographical Names of English Speaking Countries with the Focus on the Great Britain. The names of places in the various countries that are part of Great Britain were influenced by a number of elements such as Roman, Scandinavian, English, and Celtic. The main aim of the work is to explore how diverse locations influence the origin of place names in Great Britain. The primary work method is research of two sources, A Dictionary of British Place-Names written by A. D. Mills and Fife Place-name Data, compiled by the University of Glasgow. The data will be further analysed and mapped in order to answer the research question.
