The City Recalls: KHM in the cultural space of Litoměřice

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se bude zabývat tím, jak město Litoměřice vzpomíná na osobu básníka Karla Hynka Máchy. Přijetí metafory „město vzpomíná“ si žádá věnovat se v textu jak paměti, tak problematice její prostorové objektivizace. Představen bude přístup k paměti v teoriích Halbwachse (2009), Assmana (2001). K problematice města bude přistupováno optikou zkoumání urbánních studií (Jones 2006, 2009). S využitím Assmannova konceptu kulturní paměti se autorka pokusí postihnout sociální dějiny snah o institucionalizaci tématu Mácha v prostoru města Litoměřic. Kdo byl a je vypravěčem Máchovského příběhu v Litoměřicích? V kontextu Bourdieho teorie kulturní produkce přistoupí k procesu tohoto posvěcování v různosti jeho forem a projevů (Bourdieu 2010) - v rámci textů lokálních kulturních činitelů, v rámci míst paměti. Dle Norova širokého pojetí míst paměti tedy v rámci zakládání vzpomínkových spolků stejně jako odhalování soch. S přihlédnutím k tomuto širšímu kontextu bude snahou autorky porozumět poslední výrazné aktualizaci tématu Mácha v prostoru města v roce 2010 – tedy odhalení Máchova pomníku od J. V. Myslbeka. Abstract:

The thesis inquires how the city of Litoměřice recalls the character of the poet Karel Hynek Mácha. To accept the metaphor "the city recalls" we need to pay attention to both memory and the issue of its spatial objectivization. Introduced shall be the approach towards memory in theories of Halbwachs (1992) and Assmann (2001). We will approach the issue of cultural (symbolic) space of the city via lenses of urban studies (Jones 2009). The author shall attempt to capture social history of efforts to institutionalize the topic of Mácha's city of Litoměřice using Assmann's concept of the cultural memory. In the kontext of Bourdie's theory of cultural production will she approach the process of this consecration in a diversity of its forms and expressions (Bourdieu 2010) - in the framework of the texts of local cultural authorities, in the framework of the places of memory. According to Norov's (1996) broad understanding of the places of memory, that is in the framework of memorial societies foundations as well as unveiling of statues. Author's attempt will be to identify main narrators of Mácha's story in the space of the city, as well as to point at transfering of the addresses from the past to the presence and for presence. With regard to the indicated broader context of the whole issue will be the author's endeavour to understand the last distinctive actualization of the topic of Mácha in the space of the city in 2010 - meaning the unveiling of Mácha's memorial by J.V. Myslbek.
