Macroeconomic Importance of Inflation and its Development in Selected Countries

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to analyze development of inflation from 1990 to 2005 in the selected countries – the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic to the impact of the crucial economic milestones in its improvement. The theoretical causes of inflation and deflation and the definitions of terms associated with inflation are also discussed. The diploma thesis is divided into three fundamental parts. The first part comprises the theoretical background of the notion of inflation, the characterization of inflation and deflation and the description of the causes which affect the basic types of inflation (demand pull inflation and cost push inflation). The second part of the analysis is focused on the research of the basic trends of inflation levels in the countries of the former Czechoslovakia. This section also includes a comparison of inflation in selected period and deals with the use of monetary policy of the central banks in both countries. The third part is regarded as a general summary of inflationary tendencies and macroeconomic effects in specific types of inflation.

Abstract:

Cieľom práce je analýza vývoja inflácie od roku 1990 do 2005 vo vybraných krajinách- Českej a Slovenskej republike a vplyvu významných ekonomických miľníkov na jej vývoj. V práci sú taktiež analyzované teoretické príčiny inflácie a deflácie a vymedzenie pojmov s infláciou spojených. Diplomová práca je rozdelená do troch základných častí. Prvú časť tvorí teoretický základ pojmu inflácia, charakterizovanie pojmov inflácie a deflácie a popis príčin ktoré majú vplyv na základné druhy inflácie (dopytovú a nákladovú). Druhá analytická časť je obsahovo zameraná na rozbor základných vývojových tendencií miery inflácie v krajinách bývalého Československa. Táto časť zahŕňa aj komparáciu inflácie vo vybranom období a pojednáva o využitej menovej politike centrálnych bánk v oboch krajinách. Tretia časť je všeobecným zhrnutím inflačných tendencií a makroekonomických dôsledkov pri konkrétnych typoch inflácie.
