Anotace:

Tato rigorózní práce je souborem studií zabývajících se rozličnými aspekty anglické divadelní adaptace mezi lety 1600 a 1800. Ačkoliv v centru zájmu této práce jsou úpravy a revialy Shakespearoých her, studie rozebírá též díla dalších renesančních a porestauračních dramatiků, jako je Christopher Marlowe, John Fletcher nebo Thomas Soutwell. Vedle textové a tematické analýzy se práce zaměřuje na kulturní a politické klima, v nichž diskutované adaptace vznikaly a byly uváděny. Rovněž je kladen důraz na to, jak jednotlivá díla pomáhala konstituovat moderní anglickou divadelní kulturu a přispěla k jejímu vývoji.

Abstract:

The present rigorous thesis is a collection of studies discussing sundry aspects of English theatre adaptation between 1660 and 1800. While adaptations and revivals of plays by Shakespeare in this period are at the centre of interest of the thesis, it also addresses works of other Renaissance and post-Restoration dramatists, including Christopher Marlowe, Jonh Fletscher and Thomas Southwell. Besides textual and thematic analyses, the thesis focuses on the cultural and political climate in which the discussed adaptations were written and staged, also stressing how the individual works helped to establish modern English theatre culture and contributed to its development.
