Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá učivem reálií anglicky mluvících zemí v učebnicích anglického jazyka a zeměpisu pro druhý stupeň základních škol. Cílem práce je prozkoumat podobnost v zastoupení reálií anglicky mluvících zemí ve vybraných učebnicích anglického jazyka a zeměpisu. Mezi dílčí cíle práce patří analyzovat kulturní témata, kulturní dimenze, zastoupení anglicky mluvících zemí a způsob prezentace reálií. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část je věnována teoretickým východiskům, v druhé části je prezentována metodologie výzkumu a ve třetí části jsou představeny a zhodnoceny výsledky výzkumu. V rámci výzkumu byla jako hlavní výzkumná metoda aplikována kvantitativní obsahová analýza. Výzkumný soubor tvořila jedna řada učebnic anglického jazyka Bloggers (Klett) a jedna řada učebnic zeměpisu Zeměpis – Nová generace (Fraus). Výzkum prokázal, že obě učebnice kladou důraz na národní geografii, produkty a kulturu USA, ale neshodují se ve způsobu prezentace reálií a četnosti zastoupení kultury Spojeného království a Austrálie.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the portrayal of English-speaking countries' culture in English language and geography textbooks for lower secondary schools in Czechia. The aim of the thesis is to explore similarity in the representation of the culture of English-speaking countries in the selected English language and geography textbooks. The objectives of this thesis are to analyse the cultural themes, cultural dimensions, representation of selected English-speaking countries and the form of representation. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part provides a theoretical foundation, the second part details the methodology utilized in the study and the third part presents and evaluates the research findings. Quantitative content analysis was applied as the primary re-search method. The research sample comprised of one set of English language textbooks Bloggers (Klett) and one set of geography textbooks Zeměpis – Nová generace (Fraus). The research showed that the textbooks coincide with the emphasis on national geography, products, and culture of the USA, while they differ in the form of representation of the tasks and texts and frequency of representation of the UK and Australia.
