Attitudes toward death in relationship with quality of life - life satisfaction

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Postoje ke smrti ve vztahu ke kvalitě života – životní spokojenosti je zacílena na ověření, zda mezi těmito koncepty existuje vztah, a jestli se v nich osoby liší dle věku. Zároveň je záměrem prozkoumat, zda osoby, kterým zemřel blízký člověk, u sebe zaznamenaly změnu v postoji ke smrti. Pro tento účel bylo do výzkumu zapojeno 228 respondentů, kteří vyplnili testovou baterii obsahující Revidovaný profil postojů ke smrti (DAP – R) a Dotazník životní spokojenosti (DŽS). Respondenti byli dále rozděleni podle věku na mladé dospělé (N = 138), osoby ve středním věku (N = 74) a starší dospělé (N = 16). Se skupinou starších dospělých bylo kvůli jejich nízkému početnímu zastoupení ve výzkumu pracováno pouze při deskriptivní analýze. Z ověřovaných hypotéz vyplývá potvrzení vztahu mezi postoji ke smrti a životní spokojeností, a to na škálách vyhýbavého postoje, neutrálního a vstřícného přijetí. Mezi mladými dospělými a osobami ve středním věku se neprokázaly odlišnosti ve strachu ze smrti, nicméně osoby se liší na škálách vyhýbavého postoje a vstřícného přijetí. Osoby, které po zkušenosti se smrtí zaregistrovaly změnu v postoji ke smrti se od těch, kteří změnu nevmímají, liší vyšším vstřícným přijetím smrti.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis Attitudes toward death in relationship with quality of life – life satisfaction is aimed at verifying whether there is a relationship between these concepts and whether people differ in them according to age. At the same time, the intention is to examine whether people whom died a close person have noticed a change in their attitudes toward death. For this purpose 228 respondents were included in the research who filled out a test battery containing the Death Attitude Profile – Revised (DAP – R) and the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire (DŽS). The respondents were further divided according to age into groups of young adults (N = 138), middle – aged persons (N = 74) and older adults (N = 16). We worked with the group of older adults only in the descriptive analysis, due to their low number in the research. The tested hypotheses confirm the relationship between attitudes toward death and life satisfaction, on the scales of death avoidance, neutral and approach acceptance. There were no differences in fear of death between young adults and middle – aged people, but people differ in the scales of death avoidance and approach acceptance. Persons who have registered a change in attitudes toward death after the experience of death differ from those who do not perceive a change in attitude towards death by having a higher acceptance of death.
