Franco Troiano and the EUROLOGOS-system: a concept of applied translatology

Abstract:

The theme of this diploma thesis is a concept of applied translatology, based on the long-term experience in leadership of an international translating company of Franco Troiano, the founder and executive director of the EUROLOGOS Group. The first part of this work concerns the author of this concept, his motivation and fundamental ideas as the origins of the EUROLOGOS-concept, which is based especially on the concept of “glocalism” and the socio-cultural conditionality of the translating process. Further, this work deals with the problems of translation of technical and media texts and with modern translating instruments, such as terminological databases and translation memory systems that are designed to simplify the translator’s work and to ensure a high level of the target-text quality, expertise and consistency. In the last chapters the author of this work summarizes the pros and contras of the EUROLOGOS concept, at the example of her two year long practice in the Czech office of the EUROLOGOS Group.

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce je koncept aplikované translatologie, který na základě svých dlouholetých zkušeností s vedením mezinárodní překladatelské společnosti navrhl Franco Troiano, zakladatel a ředitel mezinárodní skupiny EUROLOGOS. První část práce představuje právě autora tohoto konceptu, motivaci a základní myšlenky vzniku konceptu EUROLOGOS, který staví především na takzvaném „glokálním“ pojetí a sociálně-kulturním zakořenění překladatelského procesu. Dále práce pojednává o problematice překládání věcných a mediálních textů a o moderních překladatelských pomůckách, jako jsou terminologické databáze nebo překladatelské paměti, které překladateli mají zjednodušit práci a zaručit úroveň odbornosti a soudržnost přeloženého textu. V závěrečných kapitolách autorka práce shrnuje klady a zápory konceptu EUROLOGOS na příkladu z praxe, a to na základě zkušeností s vedením české pobočky skupiny EUROLOGOS.
