The Politico-geographical Development of the Current Republic of Yemen - The Way to a Disintegrated State?

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o současné situaci v Jemenské republice. Studie je rozdělena na část teoreticko ? metodologickou a analytickou. Teoreticko ? metodologická část se zabývá charakteristikou základních termínů (rozpadlý, rozpadající se stát, index rozpadlých států) a historií Jemenu. Velká pozornost je rovněž věnována dlouholeté vládě bývalého prezidenta Alího Abdalláha Sáliha. Následně je zde vymezen hospodářský vývoj a současná ekonomická situace Jemenu. V analytické části je pak rozebrán jemenský stranický systém a zdejší režim. Detailní popis je rovněž věnován zahraniční rozvojové pomoci a spolupráci dvou významných organizací (Liga arabských států a Rada států pro spolupráci arabských států v Zálivu), které mají značný podíl při hospodářské obnově státu. Následuje charakteristika současné jemenské krize a rozbor jejích hlavních aktérů. Pozornost je zde věnována především militantní islámské teroristické organizaci Al-Káida, která využívá vnitřní slabosti Jemenu ke svému prospěchu. V této souvislosti je dále zmíněn postoj USA k jemenské krizi a příčiny přítomnosti amerických vojenských jednotek v zemi. Závěrečná část práce je pak věnována perspektivě Jemenské republiky.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is the current situation in the Republic of Yemen. The study consists of two parts, the first one is theoretical ? methodological followed by the second which is analytic. The first part is more focused on the interpretation of the fundamental terms (dissoluted state, disintegration of the state, the index of dissoluted states) and on the history of Yemen. Significant attention is also dedicated to the reign of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. In addition, the economic development and current economic situation of Yemen is covered. The second part of the thesis deals with Yemeni political system and local regime. The foreign developing support and the cooperation of the two major organizations, i.e. League of Arab States and Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG) is described thoroughly. This follows by characteristics of the current Yemeni crises and analysis of the crucial individuals. An extensive focus is also dedicated to militant Islamist organization Al-Qaeda, which benefits from abusing the internal weakness and fragmentation of Yemen. Moreover, the attitude and approach of the USA to the Yemeni crisis and reasons for presence of American military troops in the country is characterized in this context. The conclusion analyses the perspective of the Republic of Yemen.
