ICT as an instrument for overcoming the digital divide

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá stále aktuálním tématem digitální propasti. Ta se vyznačuje především sociálními nerovnostmi, které v důsledku vytváří sociální propast jak mezi lidmi, tak mezi zeměpisnými oblastmi. Práce se zaměřuje na digitální propast u účastníků, kteří na podzim roku 2018 absolvovali kurz základů ICT. S užitím kvalitativních rozhovorů se zkoumalo, zda a jakým způsobem respondenti překonali své překážky, které jim bránily v jejich osobním či pracovním životě. Nejvíce respondenty zmiňovanou překážkou se jevil problém zúžené nabídky pracovních příležitostí. Ta se u nich projevovala dvěma různými způsoby. U jednoho z nich si respondenti neuměli přes internet vyhledat pracovní nabídky, u druhého z nich jim jejich dovednosti a znalosti nestačily pro vykonávání jejich vytoužené pozice. Z šetření vyplynulo, že na všechny aktéry měla výrazný vliv vnější motivace, zejména ta z jejich přímého okolí a rodiny. V závěru jsou výsledky srovnávány s podobnými výzkumy realizovanými v minulých letech.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the actual topic of the digital divide. Especially, it is characterized by social inequalities, which eventually create social divide both among people and among geographical areas. The thesis focuses on the digital divide of attendees of the ICT basics course, which was held in autumn 2018. Using qualitative interviews it was examined whether and how the participants overcame their barriers which hindered their personal or professional life. Job opportunities were the most common barrier for surveyed subjects. There were two layer concerns. One was based on ignorance of searching a job over the Internet; the other was based on the lack of skills needed to exercise their wished job position. The survey result showed that external motivation had a significant impact on all respondents, especially that from their close neighbourhood and family. At the end of my thesis, the results are compared with similar surveys made in previous years.
