The importance and the need for foreign languages in terms of practical experience in the hotel industry

Abstract:

Moje bakalářská práce se skládá ze dvou částí – teoretické a praktické (výzkumné). Aby splnila svůj účel, stanovila jsem na počátku hlavní cíl, který bych chtěla v jejím závěru naplnit. Hlavní výzkumnou otázkou tedy bude: Proč by měl znát každý hotelový zaměstnanec alespoň jeden cizí (světový) jazyk? V teoretické části se budu zabývat především výukovými metodami cizích jazyků na středních a odborných školách (a jejich případné využití nejen zaměstnanci hotelů a studenty v praxi), které připravují budoucí personál pro praktické uplatnění v našich (nebo zahraničních) hotelích a gastronomických službách. Ve výzkumné části bych ráda ozřejmila potřebu znalosti cizích jazyků, a to prostřednictvím kvantitativní výzkumné metody, která obsáhne názory zainteresované i nezainteresované veřejnosti, na výše zmíněné skutečnosti. Pro výzkum jsem zvolila dotazníkovou metodu a oslovila respondenty ve velkých (a světově známých) městech a střediscích – Praha, Karlovy Vary, Špindlerův Mlýn, Ostrava. Obě části bakalářské práce – teoretická i praktická, budou zhodnoceny a učiněny z nich návrhy pro další možná témata např. diplomové práce, respektive praktické využití při výuce nastávajících zaměstnanců hotelnictví. Pro výzkumnou část jsem stanovila dvě hypotézy, které budou v závěru práce verifikovány.

Abstract:

My thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical (research). To achieve its purpose, I set at the beginning of the main objective, which I would like in conclusion to fulfill. The main research question is: Why would know every hotel employee at least one foreign (world) language? In the theoretical part I will deal mainly with methods of teaching foreign languages in secondary schools and vocational schools (and their potential use not only the hotel staff and students in practice) that prepare staff for future practical application in our (or foreign) Hotel and restaurant services. In the research part, I would like to clarify the need for knowledge of foreign languages, through quantitative research methods, which would encompass the views of interested and disinterested public, the above mentioned facts. For research, I chose the questionnaire method and interviewed respondents in large (and world famous) cities and centers - Prague, Praha, Karlovy Vary, Špindlerův Mlýn, Ostrava. Both parts of the thesis - theoretical and practical, will be evaluated and taken from them suggestions on possible topics eg thesis, or the practical application of the teaching staff of upcoming hotel industry.
