Ritual life in the Hare Krsna movement: situation in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Hnutí Haré Kršna je nejrozšířenější náboženskou skupinou indické tradice v západním světě. Toto hnutí na západ přinesl Bhaktivédanta Swami Prabhupáda. Práce popisuje počátky tohoto systému v Americe a později i na našem území od dob komunistického režimu až po současnost. Jsou zde stručně nastíněny problémy, které ve skupině nastaly. Těžiště práce spočívá v mapování, popisu a analýze rituální praxe hnutí v českém prostředí. Součástí této práce byl i terénní výzkum probíhající na farmě Kršnův dvůr, dále v kazatelském centru Prabhupád Bhavan v Brně a letních táborech Náma Hatta v Protivanově. Metodou je zúčastněné pozorování během dobrovolnické činnosti a polostrukturované rozhovory s členy. Cílem výzkumu je zjistit nakolik se tradice a zvyky přenesly do západních podmínek, popřípadě z jakých důvodů se některé neprovádí. Práce je členěna do tří hlavních kapitol: první se věnuje historii hnutí, druhá popisuje konkrétně rituální praxe současného hnutí. Poslední se zabývá praxí v komunitě a v běžných podmínkách a zároveň popisuje situaci v hnutí ve Velké Británii a Maďarsku.

Abstract:

Hare Krishna movement is the most spreaded religious group of Indian tradition in the western world. This movement was brought to the West by Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. This work describes the beginning of this system in America and later in our country since the communist regime till today. The problems that occurred in the group are also briefly sketched out. The focus of the work is targeted into mapping, description and analysis of ritual praxis of the movement in the Czech background. The part of the work is also a field research in "Kršnův dvůr" farm as well as in the preacher´s centre Prabhupád Bhavan in Brno and summer camps Náma Hatta in Protivanov. The used research method was a participated observing during a voluntary activity and half-structured dialogues with the members. The target of the research was to find out how much has the traditions and habits been transferred into the western conditions and alternatively what are the reasons of not practising them. The work is divided into three main charpters : the first one is dedicated to the history of the movement, the second one describes namely the ritual praxis of the contemporary movement, the third one the praxis in the community and everyday conditions and concerning in the situation of the movement in Great Britain and Hungary.
