Excise taxes are one of the relatively stable and essential part of the state budget. Their historical development shows us their impact on the functioning of the economy since antiquity. Spotrebné dane sú jednou z pomerne stabilných a nezanedbateľných súčastí štátneho rozpočtu. Ich historický vývoj nám poukazuje ich vplyv na chod ekonomiky už od staroveku. V tomto období sa daniam pripisoval iba druhoradý význam hlavným zdrojom financií boli predovšetkým vojny. Dane boli iba otázkou dobrovoľnosti a platené boli v naturáliách.
