The analysis of presidential elections in Poland in 2005

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá analýzou prezidentských voleb, které se konaly v Polsku v roce 2005. V prvních dvou kapitolách je popsána volební teorie týkající se prezidentských voleb a ústavní postavení prezidenta a jeho proměňování v průběhu posledních let. Abychom porozuměli kontextu polské politiky, v kapitole čtyři najdeme předchozí prezidentské volby z roku 2000. V kapitole pět jsou popsány parlamentní volby roku 2005 – událost která ovlivnila prezidentské volby co se týká volebních preferencí kandidátů.Další kapitola se zaměřuje na kandidáty, jejich politický profil a zkušenosti. Analýza samotných voleb se nachází v kapitole sedm, která má několik podkapitol – průzkumy volební podpory, volatilita voličských preferencí, duch volební kampaně. Dále je zde popsáno první kolo voleb, období mezi oběma koly a taktika použitá oběma kandidáty k přilákání voličů neúspěšných kandidátů prvního kola. Nakonec jsou popsány a analyzovány výsledky druhého kola. Před druhým kolem získal D. Tusk větší podporu než L. Kaczyński ve všech průzkumech konaných rozličnými agenturami. Nakonec to byl ovšem Tuskův protivník, kdo získal vítězství. Rozdíl mezi výzkumy veřejného mínění a skutečnými výsledky je pozoruhodná – mezi 12-15 % v závislosti na tom, jaká agentura výzkum prováděla.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with analysis of presidential elections held in Poland in 2005. In two initial chapters, there is described a bit of electoral theory concerning presidential elections, the constitutional status of president and its changing during the last years. To be able to understand Polish political context, in chapter four you can find the preceding presidential elections held in 2000. In chapter five, there are described parliamentary elections in 2005 - event influencing presidential elections as for the preferrences of particular candidates.The next chapter concentrates on candidates, their political profile and political experience. The analysis of elections itself is situated in chapter seven which has several subchapters – polls of electoral support, volatility of voters preferences, the spirit of campaign. Furthermore there is decribed first round, the period between both rounds and tactics used by both candidates to attract voters of unsuccessfull candidates from the first round. Last but not least there are described and analysed results of the second round. Before the second round D. Tusk gained greater support than L. Kaczynski in all polls executed by variable agencies. However, finally it was Tusks pendant who gained the victory. The difference between the polls and real result is spectacular – between 12-15 % differing according to the agency carrying out the poll.
