Coping strategies of nurses from the point of view of length of their practical experience

Abstract:

Copingové strategie zdravotních sester v závislosti na délce praxe Diplomová práce se zabývá copingovými strategiemi zdravotních sester z hlediska délky praxe. Dále byl sledován vliv neuroticismu a subjektivních pocitů únavy na volbu strategií zvládání. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 62 studentek střední zdravotnické školy a 171 sester, pracujících na nemocničním oddělení. Ke sledování copingových strategií byl použit dotazník SVF 78, dále dotazník N5 pro zjištění neuroticismu a dotazník SPÚ pro zaznamenání subjektivních pocitů únavy. Teoretická část práce pojednává obecně o stresu a pracovní zátěži, blíže se zaměřuje na pracovní zátěž sester. Dále popisuje tzv. „pomáhající osobnost“ a přibližuje modely temperamentu, které zahrnují neuroticismus jako jednu z osobnostních dimenzí. Závěr teoretické části je věnován problematice copingu. Praktická část se zabývá popisem a interpretací zjištěných dat. Na základě výsledků byly identifikovány způsoby zvládání, které sestry v průběhu profesionální kariéry nejčastěji užívají. Obecně převládají pozitivní způsoby zvládání, z nich jsou nejvíce frekventované strategie kontroly. Dále byl zjištěn vztah mezi neuroticismem a neefektivními způsoby zvládání zátěže. Statisticky významná souvislost byla prokázána mezi všemi neurotickými syndromy a faktory subjektivně prožívané únavy.

COPING STRATEGIES OF NURSES IN RESPECT OF THE LENGTH OF THEIR PRACTICE The final year thesis deals with coping strategies of nurses from the point of view of length of their practical experience. Further there was monitored the influence of neuroticism and subjective feelings of fatigue upon choosing the coping strategy. A group made up of 62 girls studying at the Nursing College and 17 nurses working in various hospital wards participated in the research. For monitoring the coping strategies and collecting information the following questionnaires were used – SVF 78, N5 for finding out about neuroticism and SPÚ for recording subjective feelings of fatigue. Theoretical part of the thesis treats of stress and work load in general, focusing on work load of nurses. Besides, it describes the so-called „assisting personality“ and depicts more closely models of temperament including neuroticism as one of personality dimensions. As the theoretical part draws to a close it pays more attention to coping problems. Practical part deals with description and is putting interpretation on the research results. On the basis of these results there were identified methods of coping the nurses use most often during their professional career. In general positive methods of coping predominate, of them the most frequented being coping strategies. Furthermore, a relation between neuroticism and ineffective methods of the load coping was discovered. Statistically significant relation was established between all neurotic syndromes and factors of subjectively experienced fatigue.
