Manipulative activities in teaching of elementary planar geometry

Abstract:

Diplomová práce mapuje manipulativní činnosti, které jsou aktivně využívány na většině základních škol v České republice, jejich kvantitu a celkovou časovou náročnost těchto činností v hodinách. Dále se zaměřuje na úspěšnost žáků v úlohách na rovinnou geometrii a porovnává je se zjištěným poznatkem o kvantitě manipulativních činností ve třídách. Výzkumná část dále zjišťuje, zda si učitelé na základních školách tvoří své vlastní pomůcky a zda to má vliv na úspěšnost žáků. Také porovnává, zda jsou v řešení geometrických úloh úspěšnější žáci vyučování metodou orientovanou na budování schémat nebo žáci vyučováni metodou transmisivní nebo instruktivní. V teoretické části jsou vysvětleny základní pojmy, které souvisí s manipulativními činnostmi, jako je poznávací proces a kognitivní vývoj jedince. Dále jsou zde popsány vyučovací metody, které jsou nadále zkoumány ve výzkumné části.

Abstract:

The thesis is mapping manipulative activities that are actively used at most of the primary schools in the Czech Republic, their quantity and total time demands in hours. Furthermore it focuses on success rate of pupils in the tasks of plane geometry and compares it with finding about quantity of manipulative activities in classes. The research part of the thesis also examines, whether the primary school teachers create their own teaching aids and whether it has influence on the success rate of their pupils. It also compares the success rate in geometric tasks of pupils taught by transmissive or instruktiv method and of pupils taught by method oriented on building of schemes. The theoretical part explains basic terms that are related to manipulative activities, such as learning process and cognitive development of an individual. It also describes different teaching methods that are further examined in the research part.
