Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl prozkoumat multimodalitu grafické novely Maus. Kapitola 1 nabízí přehled historie a vývoji komiksových knih a grafických novel, zdůrazňující rozdíly mezi oběma médii. Poskytuje rovněž i přehled základních pojmů sémiotiky a jejích aplikací v porozumění a interpretaci textu. Dále kapitola zkoumá stylistické prvky grafických novel, včetně použití vizuálních a verbálních prvků jako jsou barva, obrazové prvky, bubliny, rámce a psaný text. Kapitola 2 se zaměřuje na multimodální analýzu Maus, zkoumá, jak jsou jazyk a obraz používány k interpretaci grafických románů a jak ovlivňují sdělení, které předávají. Zkoumá různé vizuální a verbální prvky, jako jsou zvířecí obrazy, ikony, symboly, text uvnitř textu, fotografie, písmo, jazyk, elipsy, masky, panely a rámy, bubliny, časování, výrazová anatomie tělesného jazyka, onomatopoie a barevné schéma.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis aims to explore the multimodality of the graphic novel Maus. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the history and growth of comic books and graphic novels, highlighting the differences between the two mediums. It introduces basic semiotic concepts and their applications in the understanding and interpretation of the text and examines the stylistic features of graphic novels, including their use of visual and verbal elements such as color, imagery, balloons, frames, and written text. Chapter 2 focuses on multimodal analysis of Maus, examining how language and imagery are used to interpret graphic novels and how they affect the message they convey. It examines various visual and verbal elements such as animal imagery, icons, symbols, text within the text, photographs, font, language, ellipsis, masks, panels and frames, balloons, timing, expressive anatomy of body language, onomatopoeia, and the color scheme.
