Globalization and the threat of terrorism. Case study: Iraq

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou globalizace v souvislosti s fenoménem terorismu. Globalizace je jedním z aktuálně nejdiskutovanějších témat současnosti, je to proces dynamicky, avšak nerovnoměrně se vyvíjející. Právě tato nerovnoměrnost jednotlivých dimenzí globalizačního procesu souvisí i s rozvojem globálních hrozeb. Terorismus, resp. globální terorismus se v posledních desetiletích stal jednou z nejzávažnějších hrozeb ohrožující celosvětovou stabilitu a bezpečnost. Region Blízkého východu patří k těm regionům, kterým je z geopolitického hlediska přikládán velký význam již od dob kolonizace. Právě terorismus je fenoménem, pro jehož zkoumání je analýza historických milníků na Blízkém východě stěžejní. Irák se díky své strategické poloze a nalezištím ropy stal důležitým aspektem v rámci zástupných válek i mocenských zájmů světových velmocí a nejen díky intervencím západních mocností se stal určujícím prvkem pro rozvoj globálního terorismu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of globalization in the context of the phenomenon of terrorism. Globalization is one of the most debated topics of our time, it is a dynamic but unevenly evolving process. It is this unevenness of the individual dimensions of the globalisation process that is related to the development of global threats. In recent decades, terrorism, or global terrorism, has become one of the most serious threats to global stability and security. The Middle East region is one of those regions that have been given great importance from a geopolitical point of view since the time of colonisation. Terrorism is the phenomenon for the study of which the analysis of historical milestones in the Middle East is critical. Iraq, thanks to its strategic location and oil deposits, has become an important aspect in proxy wars and the power interests of world powers, and it is not only thanks to the interventions of Western powers that it has become a defining element in the development of global terrorism.
