Textbooks in teaching and learning English: learners' perspective

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with textbook evaluation from the perspective of the upper primary learners. Firstly, the theory of textbook is debated. The history of the textbook is discussed, and definition of the textbook as a didactic means is explained along with its functions and structural components. Secondly, the problematic of textbook evaluation is considered; attention is paid to the reasons for textbook evaluation, the importance of learners' opinion, approaches and methods of evaluation and evaluation criteria. Then, basic characteristics of the upper primary learners are outlined. Lastly, the research is conducted in order to ascertain learners' perspective on an English language textbook within an outlined list of criteria. The research uses questionnaires with closed items as a data collection tool with five answers depending on their agreement or disagreement with an item. Data resulting from the questionnaires are consequently analyzed. The conclusion then presents the outcomes.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá hodnocením učebnice z perspektivy žáka druhého stupně základní školy. Nejprve je debatována teorie učebnice. Diskutována je historie učebnice a je vysvětlena její definice jakožto didaktický prostředek spolu s jejími funkcemi a strukturálními komponenty. Následně je zvážena problematika hodnocení učebnic; pozornost je věnována důvodům k hodnocení, důležitosti názoru žáka, přístupům a metodám k hodnocení a samotným kritériím pro hodnocení. Poté jsou definovány charakteristiky žáka druhého stupně základní školy. V poslední řadě je proveden výzkum pro zjištění názoru žáka na učebnici anglického jazyka v rámci vymezeného listu kritérií. Výzkum využívá dotazníku s uzavřenými výroky jako pomůcky pro sběr dat s ohledem na jejich míru souhlasu či nesouhlasu s daným výrokem. Následně jsou data vyplývající z dotazníku vyhodnocena. V závěru jsou prezentovány výsledky.
