Social Media and the Development of Language Skills in English Language

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje možnému vlivu sociálních sítí na studenty středních a vysokých škol ve spojitosti s rozvojem jazykových dovedností v anglickém jazyce. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda existuje vztah mezi intenzitou využívání sociálních sítí v AJ a rozvojem jazykových dovedností v anglickém jazyce. V práci jsou definovány a popsány rozdíly mezi termíny osvojování a učení se cizímu jazyku, nebo kompetence a performance, dále jsou popsány stupně dovedností v anglickém jazyce. Poté je vysvětlen pojem sociální síť, je popsáno několik nejvyužívanějších sociálních sítí a jsou zmíněny také výhody a nevýhody užívání sociálních sítí. V kvantitativním výzkumu byla v dotazníkovém šetření sesbírána data od studentů středních a vysokých škol, která se týkají vzájemného vztahu užívaní sociálních sítí a zlepšování jazykových dovedností v anglickém jazyce.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the possible influence between the usage of social media by students of high schools and universities and the development of their language skills in English language. The goal of this thesis is to focus on the possible relationship between the intensity of usage of social media in English language and the development of language skills. This thesis deals with the definition and description of second language acquisition and second language learning, competence and performance and the levels of English language skills. Then, the term social media is described as well as some of the most popular social media platforms and its advantages and disadvantages. Then the quantitative research is included. The survey method was used. The survey was shared with students and it concentrates on the relationship between the usage of social media and the development of English language skills.
