Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá otázkou, jaké mají akcenty vliv na poslech s porozuměním. Čínští studenti jsou zvyklí převážně na americkou angličtinu. Cílem je zjistit, jestli jsou schopni porozumět také britské angličtině a také který akcent je jim fonoesteticky bližší. Teoretická část popisuje proces poslechu s porozuměním a také oba akcenty a rozdíly mezi nimi. Praktická část spočívá ve výzkumu malého rozsahu do oboru poslechu s porozuměním a fonoestetického vnímání výše zmíněných dvou akcentů anglického jazyka. Přestože se jednalo o výzkum s pouze osmi čínskými respondenty, kteří se učili angličtinu jako druhý jazyk, a přestože má studie své limitace, výsledky ukázaly poměrně relevantní závěry.

Abstract:

The present thesis deals with the effects of accents on listening comprehension. Having been exposed mainly to American English, Chinese learners are used to the accent; the aim of the present thesis is to find out if they are capable of understanding the British accent of English, as well as to find out which accent they find more phonoaesthetically pleasing. The theoretical section describes the process of listening comprehension and the two accents and their differences. The practical section is a small-scale research into the field of listening comprehension and phonoaesthetic perceptions of the two accents of English. Although the research has been carried out with only 8 Chinese ESL learners, and there are a number of limitations to it, the results have shown quite relevant conclusions.
