Behavioral finance - financial market anomalies

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na popis a vysvětlení vybraných anomálií, které narušují efektivní fungování trhu. Tyto anomálie vybočují z konceptu teorie efektivních trhů, a proto první část této práce popisuje fungování trhu z pohledu této tradiční finanční teorie. Druhá část je věnována behaviorálním financím a především již samotným anomáliím. V praktické části je testován výskyt víkendového efektu a efektu podhodnocení IPO na světových akciových trzích. Analýza historických denních kurzů šesti indexů potvrdila výskyt víkendového efektu na čtyřech z nich -- Nasdaq, S&P 500, FTSE 100 a Hang Seng. Bylo potvrzeno, že v posledních deseti letech se víkendový efekt z trhů vytratil, avšak závěr analýzy období od roku 2011 až po současnost naznačuje návrat této anomálie na akciové trhy. Výsledek testování efektu podhodnocení IPO koresponduje s výsledky jiných studií. Na vzorku 1181 prvotních veřejných nabídek akcií bylo naměřeno podhodnocení 12,6 %.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is focused on the description and explanation of the selected anomalies which disturb effective function of the market. This anomalies deviate from the concept of the efficient market theory. It is the reason why the first part of this thesis defines the function of the market from the perspective of the traditional financial theory. The second part is devoted to behavioral finance and mainly to the anomalies. The appearance of the Weekend effect and the underpricing of IPO in global stock markets is tested in the analytical part. The analysis of historical day courses of six indices confirmed the appearance of the Weekend effect at four of them -- Nasdaq Composite, S&P 500, FTSE 100 a Hang Seng. It was confirmed that in the last ten years, the Weekend effect disappeared, but the result of the analysis the period from 2011 to the present indicates the return of the anomaly to the stock markets. The result of testing the underpricing of IPO corresponds with the results of other studies. There was measured the underpricing of 12.6 % in the sample of 1,181 initial public offerings.
