Impact of the covid-19 pandemic on casting agencies in the Czech Republic and their crisis management

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem pandemie covid-19 na castingové agentury v ČR v kontextu s krizovým managementem. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, jakým způsobem reagovaly castingové agentury v České republice na vzniklou krizi, jak ji zvládly uchopit a zdali se přizpůsobily a provedly ve své činnosti nějaké změny. Teoretická část nejdříve vysvětluje samotný proces výroby audiovizuálního díla s nastíněním několika možných způsobů obsazení herců. Dále se věnuje pojmu umělecká agentura a stručně popisuje její historii. Další kapitola definuje castingovou agenturu, způsob jejího fungování a vysvětluje také casting samotný i s ním související pojmy. Předposlední kapitola popisuje průběh pandemie covid-19 a její celkové dopady na audiovizuální sektor. Poslední úsek teoretické části je věnován krizovému managementu. Praktická část je založena na kvalitativním výzkumu, který je zpracován na základě hloubkových polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s vybranými respondenty, kterými jsou aktéři z několika tuzemských castingových agentur. Cílem kvalitativního výzkumu je seznámit se s interními postupy jednotlivých castingových agentur a objektivně posoudit, jak se se vzniklou krizí vypořádaly.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on casting agencies in the Czech Republic in the context of crisis management. The main aim of the thesis is to find out how casting agencies in the Czech Republic reacted to the crisis, how they managed to grasp it and whether they adapted and made any changes in their activities. The theoretical part first explains the process of audiovisual production itself, outlining several possible ways of casting actors. It then discusses the concept of an art agency and briefly describes its history. The next chapter defines the casting agency, how it works and also explains casting itself and related concepts. The penultimate chapter describes the course of the covid-19 pandemic and its overall impact on the audiovisual sector. The last section of the theoretical part is devoted to crisis management. The practical part is based on qualitative research, which is elaborated on the basis of in-depth semi-structured interviews with selected respondents, who are actors from several czech casting agencies. The aim of the qualitative research is to learn about the internal procedures of individual casting agencies and to objectively assess how they have dealt with the crisis.
