Traffic Education for Elderly Drivers (Seniors) - Changes in Behaviour of Drivers due to Ageing

Abstract:

Záměrem této diplomové práce bylo poukázat na rizikovost řidičů seniorů v silničním provozu, která souvisí zejména se změnami tělesnými a psychickými, ke kterým dochází v průběhu stárnutí, a nastínit problematiku změn chování řidičů seniorů při účasti v silničním provozu, kdy změnou chování řidiči senioři kompenzují úbytek tělesných, smyslových a psychických funkcí v průběhu stárnutí. Dále bylo záměrem diplomové práce prezentovat současný stav dopravní výchovy na území okresu Opava, neboť řízená dopravní výchova je hlavním činitelem prevence dopravní nehodovosti řidičů seniorů a ověřit teorii, že řidiči senioři jsou rizikovou skupinou z hlediska vyššího rizika zavinění dopravní nehody. V první části diplomové práce jsou prezentovány statistické ukazatele nehodovosti v České republice, vymezeny pojmy stáří, stárnutí, včetně kategorizace stáři; jsou uvedeny projevy stáří, včetně involučních změn. Dále je v první části diplomové práce nastíněn demografický vývoj v České republice a nastíněna problematika rizikovosti řidičů seniorů v dopravě, problematika využívání kompenzačních mechanismů řidiči seniory a prezentován současný stav dopravní výchovy řidičů seniorů na územní okresu Opava z pohledu autora diplomové práce. Ve výzkumné části jsou prezentovány výsledky kvantitativního výzkumu, který byl uskutečněn dotazníkovým šetřením u řidičů tzv. středního věku (35-64 let) a u řidičů seniorů (65 a více let). Výsledky výzkumu prokázaly souvislost mezi věkem, projevy stárnutí a stáří, využíváním kompenzačních mechanismů a současným stavem dopravní výchovy, přičemž potvrdily teorii, že řidiči senioři jsou rizikovou skupinou z hlediska vyššího rizika zavinění dopravní nehody.

Abstract:

This Diploma Thesis shall highlight the risk of seniors (elderly drivers) driving in the road traffic which mainly relates to physical and psychological changes occurring during ageing; this Diploma Thesis is also aimed to outline the issue of behavioural changes of the driving seniors involved in road traffic, where the driving seniors use behaviour changes to compensate their decrease in physical, sensory and mental functions during ageing. In addition, the Diploma Thesis is also about presenting the current state of traffic education in the territory of Opava District, because the controlled traffic education is the main factor in prevention of traffic accidents of seniors; it is also required to verify the theory saying that driving seniors are meant as a risk group in terms of higher risk of traffic accidents. In the first part of the Diploma Thesis there is presentation of statistical indicators of accidents in the Czech Republic, then also definitions of age, ageing, including age categorization; there are age manifestations meant, including involution changes. The first part of the Diploma Thesis also includes the outline of demographic development in the Czech Republic as well as the issue of the risks of driving seniors in traffic; then also the issue of utilization of compensatory mechanisms by the driving seniors and finally the presentation of the current state of traffic education for driving seniors in Opava District from the point of view of the author of the Diploma Thesis. The research-aimed part includes the results of quantitative research which was carried out by questionnaire survey for the middle-aged drivers (35-64 years) and seniors (65 and over). The results of the research have shown the link between age, ageing manifestation and old age, while using compensatory mechanisms and the current state of traffic education, while confirming the theory that driving seniors are a risky group in terms of higher risk of traffic accidents.
