Implementation of agile project management – dream and reality

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem práce je zhodnocení současného stavu implementace agilního projektového řízení v České republice. Jedním z dílčích cílů je také srovnání stavu a přístupu k implementaci agilního projektového řízení mezi tuzemskými a zahraničními organizacemi. Práce se opírá o primární data z vlastního dotazníkového šetření, jehož výsledky porovnává zejména se zahraničními výzkumy kvůli novosti výzkumu a nedostatku českých zdrojů. Vlastní šetření bylo provedeno formou internetového dotazníku, kterého se v případě české verze zúčastnilo 317 respondentů a v případě zahraniční verze 103 respondentů. Oba dotazníky mají statistickou vypovídací schopnost. Dotazník se skládal ze 3 částí a zahrnoval otázky týkající se míry rozšíření agilního projektového řízení, rozsahu využívání agilních metodik a názoru na úspěšnost a neúspěšnost projektů řízených agilně. V práci je použita deskriptivní statistika, korelační analýza, analýza rozptylu a kódování, jelikož se jedná o kombinaci kvantitativního a kvalitativního výzkumu. Na vlastní výzkum a testování hypotéz byl využit statistický software SPSS Statistic. Z výsledků výzkumu vyplývá, že přibližně 70 % respondentů využívá ve své organizaci agilní projektové řízení. Ve většině případů se ale jedná o kombinaci agilního a tradičního projektového řízení. Výzkum také prokázal, že má největší vliv na implementaci kultura organizace a lidský faktor jak ze strany zaměstnanců, tak i vrcholového managementu. Oba tyto faktory byly vyhodnoceny i jako největší překážky při implementaci. Testování dále prokázalo vliv velikosti firmy na délku implementace a podíl řízených projektů. Srovnání výsledků českého a zahraničního dotazníku ukázalo, že je implementace agilního projektového řízení v zahraničí na pokročilejším stupni ve smyslu aktuální fáze implementace, podílu řízených projektů i využívání agilních artefaktů a technik. Součástí práce je uvedení limitů a námětů pro další výzkum této problematiky.

Abstract:

The main aim of the thesis is to evaluate the current state of implementation of agile project management in the Czech Republic. One of the partial objectives is also the comparison of the state and approach to implementation of agile project management between domestic and foreign organizations. The thesis is based on primary data from the own questionnaire survey whose results compare mainly with foreign research due to the novelty of the research and the lack of Czech resources. The survey itself was conducted in the form of an internet questionnaire. There were 317 respondents included in the case of the Czech version and 103 respondents in the case of the foreign version. Both questionnaires have statistical information ability. The questionnaire consisted of 3 parts and included questions about rate of extension of agile methodologies and the view on the success and failure of agile projects. Descriptive statistics, correlation, variance analysis and coding method are used in the thesis because it is combination of quantitative and qualitative research. The statistical software SPSS Statistic was used for own research and hypothesis testing. Research results show that approximately 70 % of respondents use agile project management in their organization. In most cases, however, it is a combination of agile and traditional project management. Research also show that the culture of the organization and the human factor, both employees and senior management, have the greatest impact on the implementation. Both of these factors were also identified as the biggest barriers to implementation. Testing also demonstrated the effect of the company´s size on the length of the implementation and on the proportion of managed projects. The comparison of results of the Czech and foreign questionnaires showed that the implementation of agile project management abroad is at more advanced level in terms of the current phase of implementation, the share of managed agile projects and the use of agile artifacts and techniques. Part of the thesis is stating of limits and topics for further research on this issue.
