Analysis of the 2014 and 2019 European Parliament elections in selected EU countries

Abstract:

Předmětem této empiricky zaměřené bakalářské práce je zkompletovat, popsat, a nakonec porovnat výsledky voleb do Evropského parlamentu v letech 2014 a 2019 v Česku a jeho sousedních zemích. V práci se autor zaměřuje na evropské frakce "Obnova Evropy" a "Identita a Demokracie". První zmíněná frakce zastupuje liberální, pro-evropský přístup, zatímco druhá nacionalistický a euroskeptický. Hlavní sledovanou hodnotou byly procentuální volební zisky politických stran agregované do politických frakcí. K popisu a porovnání volebních výsledků byla použita trojdimenzionální komparační analýza, kdy se porovnávaly volební zisky frakcí mezi sebou, mezi státy a v čase. Jako hlavní metody pro zpracování a interpretaci dat byly použity kartografické znázornění kartogramy a analýza prostorové autokorelace vyjádřena ukazatelem Moranovo I. Mimo porovnání a popsaní volebních výsledků byly v rámci práce diskutovány další otázky, jako například zda ve sledovaném období došlo k nárůstu podpory liberálních či euroskeptických stran, nebo zda dochází k překrývání center podpory vybraných frakcí. Z analýzy vyplynulo, že ve sledovaném období došlo k nárůstu podpory obou sledovaných frakcí a povedlo se popsat oblasti, ve kterých je tato změna nejvýznamnější

Abstract:

The subject of this empirically focused bachelor thesis is to compile, describe, and finally compare the results of the elections to the European Parliament in 2014 and 2019 in the Czech Republic and its neighboring countries. The author focuses on the European factions "Renew Europe" and "Identity and Democracy". The first faction represents a liberal, pro-European approach, while the second is nationalist and Eurosceptic. The main investigated variable was the percentage electoral gains of political parties aggregated into political factions. A three-dimensional comparative analysis was used to describe election results, comparing the electoral gains of factions among themselves, between states and over time. Cartographic representations of cartograms and analysis of spatial autocorrelation expressed by the Moran´s I indicator were used as the main methods for data processing and interpretation. In addition to comparison and description of election results, other issues were discussed, such as whether liberal or eurosceptic parties gained support or whether there is an overlap of support bases of selected factions. The analysis showed that in the monitored period there was an increase in support for both monitored factions and it was possible to describe the areas in which this change is most significant.
