Taylor rule in DSGE model with housing sector

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to compare different forms of Taylor’s rule in a selected DSGE model. The purpose of the analysis is to determine the ability of the rules to replicate the data information and to determine the most optimal monetary rule based on the selected criteria. The comparative analysis compares five versions of Taylor’s rule, through a small open economy model with a real estate market estimated on Czech quarterly data. The first part of the thesis presents different specifications of the monetary rule and an overview of the development of the real estate market in the Czech Republic. Then the model, data and methods used in the paper are presented. Subsequently, the individual models are estimated and the simulated moments are compared with the data. The final section contains simulations of monetary and costpush shocks in the economy, in which the monetary rules are compared and an optimal rule based on minimizing household consumption losses is determined.

Abstract:

Cieľom práce je porovnať rôzne formy Taylorovho pravidla vo vybranom DSGE modeli. Zámerom analýzy je zistiť schopnosť pravidiel replikovať dátové informácie a určiť najoptimálnejšie monetárne pravidlo na základe vybraných kritérií. Komparatívna analýza porovnáva päť verzií Taylorovho pravidla prostredníctvom modelu malej otvorenej ekonomiky s trhom nehnuteľností, ktorý je odhadnutý na českých štvrťročných dátach. Prvá časť práce predstavuje rôzne špecifikácie monetárneho pravidla a prehľad vývoja trhu nehnuteľností v Českej republike. Ďalej je predstavený model, dáta a metódy využité v práci. Následne sú jednotlivé modely odhadnuté a simulované momenty sú porovnané s dátovými. Záverečná časť obsahuje simulácie monetárneho a nákladového šoku v ekonomike, v rámci ktorých sú monetárne pravidlá porovnané a určuje sa optimálne pravidlo založené na minimalizácii strát v spotrebe domácností.
