Epilepsy as a health disadvantage while studying high school

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku epilepsie jako zdravotního znevýhodnění při studiu na střední škole. Teoretická část se zabývá základní charakteristikou epilepsie jako onemocnění. Zahrnuje historii, popis onemocnění, typy epilepsie a záchvatů. Okrajově shrnuje i příznaky, příčiny, diagnostiku epilepsie, první pomoc a léčbu. Podstatný dílec teoretické části se věnuje podrobněji tématu, kterým jsou specifika vzdělávání žáka s epilepsií. Tato nemoc u žáka ovlivňuje nejen psychiku a kvalitu života, ale také samotné vzdělávání. V této části práce je použita metoda studia odborné literatury s intenzivní tvorbou poznámek. Následuje analýza, syntéza a komparace neboli srovnání různých postojů mezi více odbornými publikacemi. Obsahem druhé části – praktické je kvalitativní výzkum, který pomocí polostrukturovaného rozhovoru zjišťuje u několika respondentů s epilepsií, do jaké míry a čím konkrétně onemocnění ovlivnilo jejich vzdělávání na střední škole.

Abstract:

This abstract bachelor's thesis focuses on the issue of epilepsy as a health disadvantage while studying high school. The theoretical part deals with the basic characteristics of epilepsy as a disease. It includes it’s history, description of the disease, types of epilepsy, and seizures. It also outlines the symptoms, causes, first aid and treatment. A substantial element of the theoretical part is dedicated to the topic of the education of students with epilepsy. In students this disease affects not only the psyche and quality of life, but also their education itself. The method used in this part of the work is the study of professional literature with intensive note taking. This is followed by an analysis, synthesis and comparison of different stances amongst multiple professional publications. The content of the second part – a practical qualitative research, which uses semi-structured interviews to find out from several respondents with epilepsy, to what extent and specifically how the disease affected their high school education.
