The communist regime from the perspective of a witness and a historian or the clash of actors in a public debate

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá mediálním sporem mezi pamětníkem a předsedou správní rady Nadačního fondu obětem holocaustu Michalem Klímou s historikem a děkanem FF UK docentem Michalem Pullmannem o povaze komunistického režimu v Československu. Tvoří ji teoretická část, ve které je konceptualizován totalitní a diktátorský režim na základě Původu totalitarismu od Hannah Arendt a následně diskutován vliv represe a participace na soudružnost politického režimu jako takového. V analytické části jsou dále za pomocí argumentační a diskurzivní analýzy dekonstruovány východiska obou aktérů a interpretovány v širším kontextu na základě sporů interpretace vs relativizace a participace vs represe mezi oponenty.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the media dispute between the witness and the chairman of the board of the Endowment Fund for Holocaust Victims Michal Klíma with the historian and dean of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, associate professor Michal Pullmann, about the nature of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. It consists of a theoretical part, which conceptualizes the totalitarian and dictatorial regime based on the Origin of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt and then discusses the impact of repression and participation on the cohesion of the political regime as such. In the analytical part, with the help of argumentative and discursive analysis, the starting points of both actors are deconstructed and interpreted in a broader context on the basis of disputes of interpretation vs relativization and participation vs repression between opponents.
