Venture Capital and its Utilization in Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou rizikového kapitálu, jakožto alternativní formy financování malých a středních podniků. Důraz je kladen na vysvětlení tohoto druhu investic a jeho význam v dnešní ekonomice. Největší pozornosti se dostává trhu s rizikovým kapitálem v České republice: jeho současný stav, překážky a srovnání s jinými vyspělými státy Evropy. První část této práce se věnuje teoretickému výkladu daného tématu. První kapitola se věnuje definicím a vysvětluje charakteristiku rizikového kapitálu, jako instrumentu rozvoje podniku. Také popisuje druhy investic, na které můžeme narazit a účastníky tohoto trhu. Pro jasnost v dalším výkladu, bylo nezbytné správně přeložit a vysvětlit pojmy z anglického jazyka. Další kapitola pojednává o významnosti a úloze rizikového kapitálu pro podniky i investory. Třetí kapitola podrobně popisuje systém fungování a jednotlivé etapy průběhu investice. Následuje praktická část celé práce: analýza stavu rizikového kapitálu v České republice, kde je vytknuto, jaké překážky jsou na tuzemském trhu, jaká je vládní účast a kdo se zásadně na tomto trhu podílí. Práce je završena popisem a srovnáním se současným stavem v Evropě

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of venture capital as an alternative form of financing of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Emphasis is placed on explaining this form of investments and its significance in the contemporary economy. The focal point of the thesis lies in the analysis of venture capital market in the Czech Republic: its current status, existing barriers and comparison with other markets in developed European countries. The first part of the thesis is concerned with the theoretical interpretation of the given topic. The opening chapter deals with the definitions and explanations of a range of characteristic traits of venture capital as an instrument of developing enterprises. It also describes the various types of instruments and participants that appear in this market. For clarity in the core analysis, it was necessary to translate all recurring concepts from English to Czech. The next chapter discusses the significance and role of venture capital for businesses and investors. The third chapter describes in detail the functional framework of venture capital investments in its various stages. This is followed by the analytical part of the thesis: the analysis of current status of venture capital in the Czech Republic, the barriers that are encountered in its processes, the government’s role in this matter and identification of those who are substantially involved in the venture capital market. The thesis is concluded with a comparison of the Czech market with those of other European countries.
