Impact of the migration crisis on the reintroduction of border controls in the Schengen area

Abstract:

Cílem mé bakalářské práce je odpovědět na výzkumnou otázku „Jak migrační krize ovlivnila znovuzavádění kontrol na vnějších i vnitřních hranicích v rámci schengenského prostoru?“ První kapitola je věnována stručnému vysvětlení teoretických pojmů, které jsou pro tuto práci relevantní. Pozornost je věnována zejména definování pojmu hranic a jejich ochrany. Dále je vysvětlen pojem migrace, ta je pak rozdělena na základní typologické druhy. Ty mi posloužily jako návaznost na migrační krizi, která je s těmito pojmy úzce spjata. Druhá kapitola je složena z období před rokem 2015, tedy dobou před migrační krizí v Evropské unii. Jedná se především o opatření pro ochranu hranic. Uvádím zde též Schengenský informační systém. Dále se práce zabývá zpřísněním hraničních kontrol na hranicích vnějších a zmiňuje význam agentury Frontex. Třetí kapitola této bakalářské práce je zaměřena na období po roce 2015, na období po vypuknutí migrační krize v Evropské unii. V tomto úseku se práce zaměřuje na Evropskou unii a jí přijatá opatření, která měla zásadní vliv na ochranu hranic v průběhu migrační krize 2015 a následně i po ní. Práce okrajově zmiňuje migrační krizi a její vznik. Dále je popsána role Schengenského hraničního kodexu. Dalšími stěžejními body je dohoda mezi Evropskou unií a Tureckem a téma hotspotů. Následuje Evropský systém pro cestovní informace a povolení, neboli ETIAS. Dále jsou zmíněny případy znovuzavádění hraničních kontrol a také výstavby hraničních bariér. Poslední kapitola porovnává stav ochrany hranic před a po roce 2015.

Abstract:

The main goal of my bachelor's thesis is to answer the research question "How did the migration crisis affect the reintroduction of controls at the external and internal borders within the Schengen area?" The first chapter is devoted to a brief explanation of the theoretical concepts that are important for this thesis. It deals with the definition of the concept of borders and border protection. Next the concept of migration and different types are explained. These served me as a follow-up to the migration crisis, which is closely linked to the presentation of the content. The second chapter consists of the period before 2015, the period before the migration crisis in the European Union. These measures are aimed at border protection. Here is decribed Schengen information system. External border controls are next topic. The Frontex agency is mentioned here as well. The third chapter of this bachelor thesis is focused on the period after 2015. This would be the period after the outbreak of the migration crisis in the European Union. Here, the thesis focused on the European Union and its measures that have had an impact on border protection during the migration crisis in 2015 and afterwards. The thesis marginally mentions the migration crisis. Also the role of the Schengen Borders Code is described. I write about the EU-Turkey agreement and the topic of Hotspots. I continue with the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). Next, I mention the reintroduction of border controls and the construction of border barriers. The final chapter is a comparison of the border protection before and after year 2015.
